Having dresses made...

Recommended Posts

So, I think I've decided to have my bridesmaids dresses made. All three of my bridesmaids are different ages (from 15 -my mom's age that I won't disclose unless she wants me to! lol), and are different body types and sizes. I think I'll have them made in three different styles that are similar, but suit each one individually. I think using a dressmaker will be better in the long run since I want the dresses to match in colour and material and I really don't see that happening if I go to a retail store, and still have my BM's be comfortable in what they're weating... but, I've never had a dress made for me (or anyone I know!). So, whats the first step? I've tried looking for recommendations for dressmakers in Calgary, but have come up with nothing creditable. How do I know how to pick a dressmaker? What kind of price ranges should I expect? Please Help!!!!

Courntey, I plan on having all my (9) BM desses made. I have picked a sample of the material and plan take the picture of the dress and the sample to see if it will work, then purchasing all the fabric.

I've known this dressmaker for years and she has even made my dress for my Bro/SIL's wedding and she did a great job, so I def recommend finding someone reputable first.

Thanks guys!! :) Kate, that site is awesome!!! I have one certain kind of a style that I'd like to follow and can't seem to make it work with that site... but holy, that's handy. Let us know what the quality is like once your BMs get them - that's such a great option!!

My girls are paying form 40 to 100 dlls to have their dresses made (not including the material) but that price is here in Mexico..

That's so smart!! I'll have to give that a try.

Also, is there anything I should check with them when I call them? Would they normally keep pictures of work they've previously done? I guess I could ask for references too.... anything else?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
