    Hey Ladies -
I was out tonight and got the hiccups...actually I still have them as I type this :)
I am just wondering what do you do when you get the hiccups - I have done everything water, holding my breath....

I have "fake" hiccups (dont have a better name for them). I hiccup once or twice every few hours and its worse when I drink. I've had them for about 10 years now... they are pretty funny and it isnt as bad as normal hiccups which I also get occasionally, as well.
My "fake" ones seem to be permanent and in fact, I think people will be disappointed if I don't do it during our ceremony! Its been a running joke for years, but I can't even make the noise intentionally. Sorry definitely went way off track there!!!

For the normal hiccups, I suck on a lemon wedge with sugar on it and bitters if you can find it. Works everytime!

I get this whenever I eat any type of carb too fast without drinking something to wash it down! The only thing I know that works is truly holding your breath, AFTER you've exhaled! I think it only works when your lungs are empty, and hold it until you just can't hold it any longer! Hope they went away finally!

When I get hiccups I drink a glass of water with a paper towel over the top (so you drink through the paper towel) and it always gets rid of them.

this ALWAYS always works for me:

get a glass of water with a straw, press your fingers to your ears to close the holes airtight, then drink through the straw. NEVER fails for me.

            good luck!

My best tip is take a sip of water and then plug your nose as you swallow. Sounds funny, looks even funnier, but it's get rid every time!

                My trick is to:
Breath in deeply, swallow, breath in deeply again (no exhaling in between), swallow, breath in deeply one last time, swallow...then exhale. Works every time. Good luck!

Well thankfully I don't ever have to worry if I'm near my husband. Hiccups are caused in your diaphragm. To quote him "usually caused by a spasm of the diaphragm muscle caused by irritation of the phrenic nerve". So he pinches this one nerve in my neck and holds it and they stop almost instantly. But if I'm not near him take one gigantic breathe out and they will stop (also learned by him).

So Carla, I was wondering if you've ever had someone check that...b/c my guess would be thats whats wrong with you and maybe you could get it checked out and maybe stopped
