Calling Canadian/Winnipeg brides

Recommended Posts

Hey Joss,

Well we have 24 people so far, some people still might be booking soon or last minute, i'm not worried. Ya if we are not on the same plane we can always get the party started in the Airport LOL. We will probably be crossing paths while you leave the resort and we get there..hahaha.

We are having a AHR but opted out of a social. What about you guys ? I am not really a fan of socials to begin with and didn't want to have to go though the stress. Have you chosen a photographer yet ? Good luck with the dress, i had fun going to a bunch of stores in one day just trying stuff on, and considering alot of them are in the same area it makes it easier.

That's a great number Leanne. That way you don't have to worry about coordinating a huge group. No social for us either. We're more than happy to go to them, but not plan one :P With all the bridal shops in one area, did you make an appointment or just show up?

Here's a question for the Canadian / Winnipeg brides. Do we need to have our birth certificates translated into Spanish and apostilled? I've heard a lot of conflicting things.

Hi Peggers! I just got my dress last weekend. I thought I would go to the States since my mom had lots of friends who's daughters bought theirs down there. But I checked out 4 stores downtown and was set. I started at Helene's (where my mom bought hers 29 years ago!) and they gave me a lot of dress options, but a bit pushy. The woman at Helene's tried to get me to be her dress up doll and kept putting veils on me even though I told her I wasn't wearing one! I did fall in love with a dress there, but thought I should see more.

Our last stop was LA Collection and I tried on a few more, but then tried on the dress I loved from Helene's and knew it was the one! And LAC was $115 cheaper. The girls were super nice there and no pushy at all. And they actually accepted that I didn't want a veil, and brought me flower options instead.

Has anyone booked their DJ for the social yet?? I have no idea how to pick one or how early to book them!

Hi fellow Winnipegers!

Great to see some posts talking about socials! Ha! Not something anyone else really knows about :) We are having one, and it's turning out not to be that stressful so far. We called around for prices on halls then went with one in St. Norbert, where I grew up and my parents still live. We got tickets for cheap made out of business cards on Vista Print. Then there is just the liquor license that will be taken care of a couple weeks before. As for DJ's the hall recommended one that they have a deal worked out with, so we went with them. Plus we had a recommendation to Crystal Sound from my brother, as he knows one of the DJ's. But we went with Platinum as they are affiliated with the hall. As for prizes, things are starting to trickle in, you just have to hold on to anything you can gift card wise, or gifts etc and give out letters to people you do business with a lot, for ex, I am getting some things from my hair salon. I think it will all work out in the end and hopefully we will make some extra money to put toward excursions and other things in the budget!

Wow, longwinded post :0

Hey Joss, so no social either eh, nice Are you guys having a reception here ? I did not have to make an appt anywhere for dresses, just went on a saturday morning and did my rounds, started with the ones on portage ave and then moved our way towards downtown. All i can say is have fun with it !!!

I just got an email from my travel agent telling me to check with the wedding coordinator at our resort to see what they need. we might have to have the birth certificate translated in spanish here and legalized at the mexican consulate in canada. she also mentioned that vital statistics has recently changed the look and format of manitoba birth certificates, now you may need the one with your parents name on it rather then the small credit card size. I am still waiting to hear back from the resort on exactly what we need to do.

Leanne - nope. No "official" AHR, though we are thinking of having an informal dinner type get together thing with family / friends in the city. Most of my friends live outside of MB anyway sad.gif B.C. / Ontario bums!

Jenn - that's sweet news about LA Collections. I stopped in there and made an appointment for tomorrow and they seemed pretty chill and nice. It was a nice change from some of the other bridal shops where they seemed to busy or insincere!

Winnipeg girls, if you're having a social, i'm game to support you. Make sure to post the details!

Here's a question for the Winnipeg girls. Did you get your dress here in the city? Or head down to Fargo / Grand Forks or Minneapolis?

I have been lookin on line so far, here is a link to a couple I like. I want something with a stappy back...

I am very leary on buying a dress online though!! I will print these off and take them to some bridal stores in the city. I have thought of David's in Minneapolis though!

An excuse to also hit up the Mall of America and Ikea too!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
