Jamaica vs Cuba

So right now we're looking at finalizing our location, but we're having a really hard time making the decision between Jamaica & Cuba. We don't have any americans coming with us, so that's not a factor. Legalizing marriages from either seem to be fairly similar

Cuba seems great as it would be amazing to see it before Obama opens things up, and Jamaica just seems to be paradise, although has higher crime. While we appreciate good food, that's not as pressing in our plans shift our decision one way or another.

Would love to hear any feedback on what swayed you one way or another.

I love Cuba, I am going back in August, this will be my 4th time visiting the country. But I chose Jamaica, for a couple of reasons, my daugthers husband is American, and when I compared the requirements for the paperwork, Jamaica seemed the easiest. If I am not mistaken don't you have to get your documents translated into spanishhuh.gif What ever you decide it will be the right choice for you.

I know you said that food doesn't sway your decision but in the end that was why we chose Jamaica. We had already been to Cuba and I was fine with the food but DH had some minor stomach issues throughout the trip. The food was WAY better in Jamaica and made our trip much more pleasant! Good luck! No matter where you choose you will have an amazing time. I know how hard it is to choose but in the end it won't matter where you choose...it'll be a blast no matter where you go!!

I've been to both an would definitely choose Jamaica. I think the atmosphere and ambiance lend itself better to a destination wedding. The food is better and there are more 'nicer' hotels to choose from. If people are spending money and travelling for your wedding you want to make sure you put them in a place with good food!

I've never been to Cuba but I can tell you that the warm, welcoming feeling that Jamaican's give you cannot be duplicated! Depending on the vibe you are going for, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril give you all completely different experiences, all unique, and all great!

We chose Cuba for the beaches, the culture and because we had heard good things about it. We got married at Playa Pesquero in Holguin, which by Cuban standards, is considered a 5 star. We were not disappointed with the beaches, the hotel or our wedding. The food is fine - I considered it to be "filler" for energy required for the excursions and to keep us going. It wasn't the greatest, but nobody starved or got sick!

Im obviously partial to Jamaica, since we got married there. We chose Jamaica over DR or Cuba, mostly based on ease of paperwork. No need to have documents translated into Spanish and then back into English when you get married in Jamaica. My Mom did a guided hiking tour of Cuba a few years back and said the country was amazing. They didnt stay anywhere near any of the big AI resorts though. She said she was treated like family by the locals in Cuba. I figure go with your gut on this one. There's pros and cons to both islands. Good luck!

Cuba, Hands down. The place is beautiful. They people are extremely welcoming and gracious. The hotels are very nice, service for us was excellent, beaches are incredible. They are exceptional with children (my son is autistic and they were amazing with him), The food was also good. We always found stuff we like. But we did find the food off resort to be mouth watering (I guess in the resort they are trying to make everyone happy, so seasoning is a little different). The Culture, OMG the architecture, the artists, the whole enviroment is really something that needs to be experienced and I have to agree with kristna69z, go before there are major changes. They are going to happen it is just when, before or after Castro dies.

We went earlier this year and fell in love. It was the only place that FI would consider. He thought he stepped off the plane into paradise! There is also so much to see and do, lots of excursions, great shopping, the best rum, and of course their world famous cigars!

Good Luck, it is a hard decision.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
