Help! Any Tips/Advice for my 1st dress shoppinge excursion

Recommended Posts

So I am sooooooooooo excited and nervous that I am going dress shopping tomorrow. I decided to go alone (thanks everyone for all of your support on getting me excited to head out alone)

What should I wear? What about shoes?

Should I wear make up and do my hair a little? (I tend to be a no makeup baseball cap kind of girl) wink.gif

Should I bring a list of designers I like?

Should I know what kind of sytle I like? Pictures?

What is up with the sizes, how do know what size?

Oh and please feel free to share any other helpful information that I have not mentioned.

Thanks so much.

Go wearing what you’re most comfortable in, remember you may try on a lot of dresses or it might just be a few but for your first time looking there is no need to get all dolled up in my opinion, make sure you are comfortable.

If you have an idea of what style or designer you’re looking for defiantly tell the sales women helping you but also try on others, you may be surprised on what you really like on your body!

You may want to take your own strapless bra if you want but the store will have them for trying on if you don't.

As for shoes, I walked around the store barefoot while trying on dresses because I went into the store on a whim with sneakers on.

Also don’t worry about size, tell the saleswomen what size you normally wear and she will grab the right sizes in the dresses you want to try, they know how the different lines run.

Last but not least, let the saleswomen at the store help you and they know a lot about the dresses and can get you in and out of them really quickly! If the women in the store you go to aren’t helpful (by the way they are usually over helpful) just move on to another store or make an appointment when they can help you.

Hope that helps! I went in to try on dresses knowing what I wanted but I still tried on 8 different styles to be sure but I did decide that the first one I tried was the one!!

Good Luck and have fun!!!

The best advice I can give is don't let the sales people be pushy. They can use a lot of scare tactics to pressure you into buying on the spot (like telling you how long it takes to come in, or saying it may not be available if you come back.) Don't let anyone push you into buying if you're not ready. I love my dress, but I was 6 months prego when I found mine. It was the first and only dress I tried. I just so happened to see it while looking for my best friend's dress ( who is getting married the week before I am.) I felt like I was pushed to order on the spot. Again, I love my dress, but I feel like I missed out on the experience of trying dresses. Give yourself a couple of days after trying to go home and let it all sink in, and to make sure you made the right decision. There are a LOT of 2 and 3 dress brides that ended up that way because of being pressured to buy.

When they say wear underwear, I think it's better if it's a nude color. This I forgot the first time I went, but, either bring a digital camera (if they will allow you to take pics in the salon with the dress on), or , a really good camera phone!

My best advice is just to try EVERYTHING on even if you think you'll hate it. I was set on my style when I started looking and they ending up looking the worst on. Be open minded :) ...and I second the ignoring pushy sales people, if your not sure, dont do it !

Pretty funny the girl came into the room with me and just stood there, I figured that she was waiting for me to get undressed so I took off my dress, she just kept standing there and I asked her if I should take off my bra aand she said yes so there I was toppless and she slipped the dress over my head. Kinda funny I thought I was gonna have a porn moment. My FI was excited to hear about it. lol

I had no idea what to expect when I went out the first time. I went into a store and they were very helpful. The lady told me to go into the change room and get down to my underwear only...so I did....she then knocked on the door and told me to turn around and put my hands above my head!!! I had no idea what she was doing....I thought I was getting ready to be strip searched....However she very politly slid the dress over my head.....I couldn't stop laughing!

The things I have learned is....make sure you have a camera , stapless bra and time!! Try everything!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
