Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Brides??

Recommended Posts

Argh so I just heard back from Diana and apparently they wont allow us to use the Palapa unless we do the three course meal. So frustrated that my wedding is in less then two weeks and they are telling me this now. Has anyone done the plated meal and how was it? I really don't want to incur the cost of this as I really wanted to be able to extend the reception for an hour but they are killing my budget. Has anyone had their reception on the beach and if so how was it? Those of you who used the Palapa is it really worth spending another $1000.00 on it to keep it. Who would've imagined our meals would end up costing over $3500.00 in Mexico! Sorry for the rant all just beyond annoyed right now.

@@JoannaBanana I think they are some type of appetizer right?!

Uhm OMG!  Why????  I'm having the BBQ beach menu..... I mean I think I am.  Unless they pull this stunt on me.  How many guests do you have?  Is it too many or too little?

And sorry for my vague canape question.  I'm actually having a mini meltdown right now trying to pull all my details together and cursing myself for being a slacker.  I meant to ask... the capapes how are they served?  Just on a table?  What kind of food is it? They are telling me now that they think I should add extra drinks between ceremony and reception, but I kinda thought that's what the cocktail hour was for.  I dunno, I'm just confused and scared I'm going to get bamboozled in to all these extra charges.  Such as being told I need a three course plated meal.

@@JoannaBanana They are telling me I have too many guests, I also wanted the BBQ menu but apparently thats a no go for me we have 103 attending. So annoyed. Lol

They also suggested the cocktail hour for me which is like the bar menu I think but with our number its just to much so I honestly am just doing the canapes and champagne, I find that to be sufficient enough. I believe its just on a table for everyone but I could be wrong, I attended a wedding there a few years ago and I just remember a long table with the champagne and apps. I hope that helps! I like you am panicking and feel like they are just going to keep adding on things that I need to get which I seriously did not budget for!

In most of the packages (if not all) there is a toast with champagne and canapes (appetizers) right after the ceremony.

If you want more than the champagne, and want a full bar, then you need to pay for an hour for cocktails. This price is per person per hour and depends on which booze you choose (we chose the cheapest)

They served the champagne but honestly can't recall if they served the canapes. An August 2014 bride on here stated her friend went around serving them as the waitresses didn't.     I never had a canape to be honest (so busy with pics and congrats) but I swear from a picture one had a shrimp on it lol

I am wondering if 103 people is just too much food for the BBQ menu and they are worried they don't have the space in the palapa to be able to put more out??!?!!  that's my only guess.  From time to time I see people on here who do the plated meal and have had no complaints. But I totally appreciate the cost difference.

Unsure re a beach bash, but honestly, I would take that over an a'la carte.   So for me, the extra cost for the palapa is worth it.  Back before I got married, had I have been in your situation I would have doubted it too, but now being a bride -- if you can't have the palapa have the beach, but I wouldn't do the a'la carte.  It's that gorgeous out there and you don't want regrets.

Good luck ladies!

Thank you @@calgarybride2015 I just dont feel comfortable giving up the Palapa so if I have to do the plated I will. I just wish they would have told me this a month ago when I submitted by guest list, that seriously peeves me lol.

I am not totally against the beach I just feel the Palapa probably has a way better reception vibe and want everyone to have fun and dance and drink. I think your right though the probably just feel that everything wont fit in the Palapa is my guess!

It's going to be tight I'm not going to lie. My recommendation would be that after dinner they push the tables to the side/edges to give enough room to dance!

I totally understand. It's a huge additional cost and they knew well before today!

So I think a bunch of us did the Free Wedding with Palapa upgrade.  It's been so many emails, and so many documents.  I got it in my head that they would steam my dress as part of this package.  But now looking back at my emails I can't seem to see anything about this.  Do they steam my dress, and press the groom's outfit?

Not in the free package, no. I borrowed my friends travel steamer. Or you could buy one. The prices I was given for steaming on site were outrageous.

Thank you. Okay we're planning around it now. Getting down to the nitty gritty.

NP. I was quoted $160. When I declined they offered a smaller/different service that was cheaper. Was nice having the travel one as we did all the bridal parties dresses, mine and the flower girls. It got lots of use. Edited by calgarybride2015

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
