Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Brides??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am getting married in January at the Grand Sirenis and I am getting my hair and makeup done at the spa.

Are there any brides that got their hair and makeup done and would like to share photos?  How do you think they did?  Also, did any of your wedding party use the spa for hair and makeup?  Can you send pictures to shantel.pruneau@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Shantel

Hello brides!!! We aare just get married at the GSRM and it was amazing, i used an outside photographer and pay the penalty but it was the best decision ever cause from the pics it was included in the package only two look like profesional pics. We choose Jhankarlo Amaro (dont have my pics yet ), but theres tons of good photographers in RM, if you need some help just let me know.

Ladies! I am bringing a photographer from home and we want to do a cenote TTD shoot. Problem is, not being from there, we don't know where the good spots are! If you find any great cenotes for photoshoots that aren't too crazy busy with tourists, I would love love love the feedback!

Hi Shantel

I had my hair done there, as well as my mom, mother-in-law, and my 3 bridesmaids. A girl named Isis did my hair and she was very sweet and tried really hard, she was too much of a perfectionist though and took over 2 hours on me so I had to leave and do the rest of my hair on my own. So I would recommend her but just be mindful of time :)

As for makeup, I did my own, and my bridesmaids all did their own. My mom and mom-in-law had theirs done and they did a pretty good job (I work full time at an office, but my part time job, I freelance as a makeup artist so I was happy to do my own), I had a peek into their makeup kit and they used mostly MAC makeup products and I use lots of MAC and can vouch that the product wears really well. I don't think they used a primer though before the application, so I would def bring a primer for them to use (I would recommend NARS or Smashbox)

Congrats!! The 22nd of April is gonna come quick like the 24th haha. Yes, I did have trouble selecting the date with the resort, I felt like they didn't want to accomodate us and they also said that week was the earliest and since we are doing a legal wedding the 24th was the earliest for us.  I'm a little bit frustrated right now because comparing with my friends wedding last april at a dreams resort in riviera maya we are getting way less in our packages than they did for a LOT more money.  I know the resort is amazing (been there in 2008 and loved it) but It's a bit dissapointing that their prices aren't competitive.

also, i'm a bit nervous about the photography...

We are flying out of ottawa, how about you guys?

Shera - I was told by the resort that you have to be at the resort for a minimum of 3 days before you can have the wedding. This helps them to get everything in order, get your blood work, etc. Also, I would def recommend bringing your own photographer or hiring someone else. The resort's photographer isn't good. And lastly - our officiant was TERRIBLE!!!! She did not go with our program at all. We wrote our own vows and she blew right past the entire ceremony and tried to make us kiss before we even said our vows. We had to say 'uhhh.... stop we have written our own vows...' My brother had practised months and months to play 3 songs on the piano that I had to fork out a bunch of money for, she didn't stop once for him to play. So he just sat there the whole time. I tried to ask for my money back for the piano and they refused. It was really frustrating since I had the program all written out and printed for the wedding coordinator and for all my guests to follow. So if possible, ask to see if you can arrange talking to the officiant before hand.

Shera - I'm also flying out of Ottawa on May 17th! We are having the wedding on the Monday May 19th but we are doing a symbolic ceremony (doing things a bit backwards, AHR in Ottawa on May 3rd which will include the legal ceremony).

For photographers, we are bringing ours from Ottawa. They are friends who are professional photographers and after lots of back and forth, the resort FINALLY agreed to wave the 300 fee because they will be staying for 4 days. Definitely bringing that e-mail with me! If you are looking for a deal on photos my friend's got married last November in Mayan Riviera and their photographers were really great and also very cheap - I think they only paid 1500 for 2 photographers. Take it photo http://www.fototakeit.com/blog/.

Jenny - thanks for the tip on the officiant! I wonder if it's possible to meet with them beforehand.... I'm also wondering if for a symbolic ceremony you really have to use their officiant? I'm going to ask...

As far as things going to plan, ie following schedule and stuff, my friend who used to work for resorts in Mexico a few years ago gave me a pretty good tip. She said I should set aside a couple hundred dollars, give the wedding coordinator 100 when I get there and tell her another 100 is waiting for her as long as everything goes according to plan. Apparently what they will usually do then is tip from that who they need to to make sure things go well. I'm hoping that this will resolve some of the unecessary  mixups I've read about like the DJ not following the playlist... and now with you Jenny, the officiant not following the program - JEEZ!

Hey Marlos - My girlfriend from home is a photographer http://www.jacquelineelizabeth.com/jenny-chris-married/ She did our engagement photos and I loved them so much so she agreed to do our wedding also. Hey everyone ... I am still actually at the resort - our wedding was a couple days ago, There were no major snafus... Cake was wrong flavor and an iguana helped itself to a tray of appetizers during cocktails.... Those were the biggest boo boo of the day. Dj played songs fine for the ones we specified but definitely wished we pre loaded a iPod with songs for reception - luckily a couple guests provided their phones and the dj played the music from that which was more crowd appropriate. Resort photographers did not show up day of wedding - we brought our own and they offered to do a family session with us for our ten free pics - if the rain ever stops I hope we can do that in next couple days! I used the spa for my hair and make up as well as pre wedding manis and pedis - it all worked out well. Hair and make up took 2 hours and I just needed to remove the thick dark eye brows they filled in - but I was happy over all with how it turned out in general. We also did a ttd session the morning after - pool lazy river and down at the beach .... We had zero issues with bringing our friend in who was staying the whole week with us. More detailed review and pics to come!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
