In the african coulture you do libations. You say a simple prayer to all of the family friends that passed away and pour water into a plant or into something that can benifit from it. We will do that in memory of my mother who also passed away from colon cancer and our daughter who passed away from SIDS. You could do a picture and a special sand ceremony and present it to the FMIL with a nice poem

This is a very important part of the ceremony to me, my father passed away last August of Cancer also. Evertons younger sister also passed away suddenly the year before that, so it is important to us to honour these important people in our lives. We are saying a irish blessing and at the end of it we are having our mothers ring a tiny bell to remember them, I also like the idea of the empty chairs, maybe we will place the bells on the chairs. I will also be wearing a locket with my fathers picture in it.

I am sorry for all of you who have lost your loved ones, I know how difficult it is.

So my sister carried her flowers and my mom had the lily. We did have to get after my mom because she put her purse on the seat
She also had read that a sunflower was another flower recommended. I am sure there is symbolism behind the two flowers I am not sure what that is.

She made mention of it in the program so she didn't put a sign up. I like it better that way- seemed classy.
omg, I love that - the white lilly. I seriously teared up - and (because I'm cold and heartless) I rarely do on this forum. That's absolutely beautiful. And then you made me laugh when I read that your mom put her purse on the chair. haha.

I really love the pure white lily idea. I think it's really sweet and simple and won't draw too much attention to it, I mean, it supposed to be a happy day.

I also plan on doing the flower photos.

I very much like the idea of the chair with the simple flower.

Here is something mexicomelissa did for her FI that I found in another post that made me cry:

          "She looks down from heaven
          With the angels above
          On our wedding day
          Mom sends you her love."

Those are cool! I've never seen those before--- I like that, might have to use it as a groom's gift. :)
