As soon as my dh picked up the ring at the jeweler he ran over to my parents house to ask my dad permission, my mom was still at work he waited for her to come home to show her the ring. My dad was so happy that dh asked him.

Im sure your fi will ask maybe he feels funny, its not like its something he does everyday so i'm sure he needs to work up some courage even if he knows your dad will say yes.

My husband talked to my dad about it, but didn't necessarily *ask permission*. We were ring shopping for MONTHS, so everyone knew it was coming. But I think it's also a preferential thing. My sister refused to have her husband ask my Dad b/c she felt that it was degrading to women since the reason this was done in the past is b/c we were considere property. I am not saying that isn't how it was, but I wasn't offended by the gesture and knew that my Dad would appreciate it, so I told Matt that he should have a talk with him.

It was actually a great experience for the both of them. My Dad was able to tell Matt how much better my life seems with him in it and how happy he has made me. I told Matt that stuff too, but it's different coming from someone else. I think they had a nice little chat about it and I am glad they did.

Finally he went and talked to my father yesterday. FI said my father said yes before he even opened his mouth and that my father was very open with him. FI is a procrastinator and sometimes I feel like I have to put fire under his a$$ but to me that takes the genuineness out of things. My father was aware of us wanting to get married and I didn't want FI to ask for permission per say but to just have a conversation with him about it because of the relationship I have with him and I agree it's the respectful thing to do. So one more thing off the list with a million more to go, LOL!

Thank you all for the advice and input, happy planning/living to you all!

my dad's not in my life.. and Fi is pretty adamant that it should only be our decision, so he didn't ask my mom.. I don't mind either way.. although, i do think it's really nice.. and kind of makes me sad that i don't have a dad for him to ask!

It's funny that you mention this because my FI acutally asked my dad long before he actually asked me to marry him. We had dated for almost 5 years before he popped the question and we went through a mini break up along the way. Anyway, I was so devistated about this break up my dad ended up telling me that my now FI asked him if he could marry me so he could calm me down. I love my dad! He knew it was the only thing that knock me back into reality.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
