How often do you change your bedsheets?

I think the hot water is more of an allergy precaution. It kills dust-mites. I'm super allergic so my allergist gave me that tid bit.
I wash sheets at least once a week, but we usually shower at night anyway.

Before I started doing Matt's laundry too, I used to ALWAYS wash the sheets and bedding weekly. But now that I do his laundry as well as mine, sometimes there just isn't enough time. Washing 2 people's clothes, towels, bedding takes up alot more time then 1 persons! (I can't imagine the people that have kids!) So while I try for weekly, sometimes it's every other. But I always use cold water.

 

Oh and the fecal thing grosses me out to much! I read/heard that before and really think it's about time someone invent something to handle that grossness.

Didn't read the article (afraid I'd be too grossed out) but I started thinking a couple things while reading through the thread.

 

1. I wonder if pajamas make a difference? I would imagine the body secretions would be more abundant, maybe, if one slept naked instead of wearing pajamas?

 

2. I wonder if the same stuff would be true for the front seats of my car. I spend almost the same amount of time in my drivers seat as I do sleeping some days, and assuming the study includes sleeping with pajamas, there are body secretions all over those fabric seats and they certainly don't get washed as often as my sheets and definitely not with hot water. Gross.

 

It's early. Maybe I should just go get some coffee and try not to think about secretions anymore.

I havent died yet and I only wash the bed linen every 2-4 weeks depending on how busy I am. Im definately not a germaphobe - I work in a hospital (the filthiest places on earth) so Im exposed to a hell of a lot more than just plain old poop. If I had regular days off I might be more inclined to wash stuff more often, but I do what I can do, when I can do it.

Deb- I've totally wanted one of those tooth brush things. I just haven't spent the money on it yet, because usually shoes are at the top of the list!

 

As for an invention for the toilet seat- I'm not sure if everyone watched the one season of Great American Inventor (it was a Simon Cowell show- he produced, not hosted/judged). I actually liked the show and one of the people had an invention to prevent fecal spreading from toilets.

 

Another guy invented a car seat that kinda looked like an egg half that the baby carrier "floated" in so if in an accident the baby wouldn't really be subjected to whiplash. It was such a great idea- it just lacked the convenience. It was sooo sad too because his baby died from a car accident and his invention would have prevented her death!

yea, probably once a month, if that, here. when i traveled for work i only slept in my bed on weekends, if that (not if i went somewhere else for the weekend) so i dind't change them often. just when i happen to think about it! so i probably got in a bad habit, and now i just don't think about it much.

definitely not often enough here...probably 1x/month, maybe even less if we're busy. i agree with jessica (and rachel?) - it hasn't killed me yet. i'm a teacher; i deal with snot and dirty kid hands all day - much grosser than whatever's on my sheets.

 

as for the guest bedrooms, i leave the used sheets on until i know someone is coming to visit. most often, it's my sister, so i don't always change them for her. since we have cats who like to burrow under the covers, i'd rather just leave them dirty and put fresh sheets on right before the person arrives.
