Black shirt for the groom?...Be honest

Recommended Posts

I want people to be honest with me on this, what do you think of the groom wearing a black shirt? I see pics of groom mainly wearing ivory/white, which is what I thought I wanted, but I really think my FI will look better in black.

Our ceremony is at the Gazebo at Dreams PV, so that is the backgroung.

We bought him ivory linen pants (they look great!) and then a short sleeve black silk shirt (like Tommy Bahama shirt).

The guy at men's warehouse told me that I wouldn't be able to put a boutteniere on his silk shirt? any experience with that?

I haven't bought the best man's shirt yet, because I'm waiting to make sure I don't want to change my FI shirt to ivory.

If anyone has any pics of the groom in baclk next to the bride in her dress, please send them my way!

thanks for the input!

I actually like the idea of him wearing a black shirt with ivory pants. The black shirt is really no different than if he were to wear a black tuxedo at a normal wedding, but wearing the silk shirt with the ivory pants will give him a beachy look. Definitely nothing wrong with that!

okay i'm going to be honest with you. for me I really wanted dh's shirt to match the color of my dress. so i got him a white shirt that had some colored embroidery on it.

Why do you think your dh wont look as good in white?

But its your wedding so i think it should really be up to you guys. so if you guys prefer black than go with black.

My honest opinion is that if he looks best in black - do black. You want him to look his absolute best and if thats what you both agree on, the so be it :) I also think it might dress it up a little bit....like a destination wedding version of a traditional suit.....those are my thoughts!

Have you seen paraisobeachbride2009's pics? Her hubby is wearing a black shirt and I think it looks great. Personally, I would go with whatever FI feels comfy in and whatever looks best to you 2. You are the ones that will be looking at the pics 50 years from now!

I don't think that there is any reason black shouldn't be worn. That being said you are in a tropical country and he may die of heat in the black. My FI opted for all white for this reason (something I kinda didn't want but then again he hasn't asked for much so he may as well get what he wants...)

I honestly like the idea of the groom wearing the same color as the brides dress. It ties them together nicely in the pictures, kwim? Also imo, a guy can wear a blk shirt on any night but the wedding day/night, is special so why not dress different than everyone else and wear ivory to match the bride. I recently went to a wedding where the groom wore a blk shirt and although he looked great in it, when we saw the pix, he didnt stand out. For our wedding, Joe wanted to wear grey or something dark and I talked him into wearing ivory and he was so glad I did, b/c the pix just look a lot better and he stood out more as the groom.

Regardless your pix will be gorgeous though. So it's all preference. What doe your FI think?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
