Question For TA's

I'm considering suprising FH with a 4 nt villa stay after the wedding. He had previously said he didn't think he wanted to go elsewhere(for no other reason than laziness), but I think I've found a place that will be worth a little inconvenience once he see's it.

Anyway, my question is what are some of the drawbacks of booking accomodations seperately from the flights? If we do this, we'll be staying at the resort for 4 nts, then at the villa for another 4 after the wedding, leaving the resort that Monday with most of the other guests. I'm sure we'll lose the package discount, unavoidable. But what else should I be keeping in mind?

My TA is awesome and I really like her, but she's out of the office til Thursday and this is nagging at the back of my brain. lol According to her tour company contacts, the hotel is finalizing the rest of their contracts this next week or so and they will have package/rate info available for us to book soon.

MarieSam-there are a couple of places in Akumal and one on Isla I'm looking at. I'll get the links and post them in a bit! I know you stayed in one on the lagoon in Akumal.....I am sooooooo greeeeeeen!

Maureen- thanks! I'm still confused though..(and yea, my TA got back to me saying that because of the way airfare was running these days and a few other reasons, she didn't think it would make a difference) BUT, how can I book as a package (wedding resort + airfare) when I'll be leaving the resort but not flying home the day I leave? That's what's confusing to me, how that will work. We'll be leaving the resort, but not flying home so doesn't that leave us out of the running for a package deal?

OK, ladies...sorry for the week long hiatus. Suffice it to say that I am not firmly against ALL mechanics in the state of Illinois. Ugh!

OK, Maureen..I think I've got it. I wondered why my agent didn't seem overly concerned about it (she really is pretty darn efficient and helpful). I didn't ask anything more because I've been dealing with the resort on, of all things, a drinks menu problem. But what you're saying makes sense and as long as it's not going to totally blow up in our faces, I'm feeling better about going through with booking a villa.

MarieSam- ok, so I'm *thinking* the one we're going with is actually in Puerto Morelos. The owner has offered us a KILLER deal on the place, it's huge, beach front and has the pre-req pool that I know Billy would have a cow without. 3 floors and a roof top jacuzzi. I like Morelos because the transfer won't be so bad and it's still off the beaten path enough for us to do things at our own pace without the crowds unless we choose to go to the more popular attractions.

I wanted Akumal, I did! But darn it, I don't think I can pass up this deal! Everything in my price range in Akumal seemed to have a really rocky shoreline, or no pool then this came along.

Savannah, I have stayed in a villa in Puerto Morelos and the beaches there are gorgeous. It seemed like a lot of the villas were actually occupied by their owners so it definately was not a touristy type of place. It is a great place to relax and enjoy your friends. I went with a group of friends and we still talk about that vacation. If the price is right, I say go for it!

Sav, that sounds wonderful ~ if you are getting a great deal on it, then go for it!!! We visited Puerto Morelos in 2006, and it was a great town -- definitely a small town vibe, which I LOVE. Plus you can always take a day trip to Akumal wink.gif

I am so excited for you!!! All my wedding urges will now be spread to you, my fellow Akumal bride Jacilyn, and Desiree. Ugh, I am so depressed it is all over sad.gif ~ it's like a baby you take care of for months/years and then it grows up and moves on. So enjoy all of this hun, even all the crappy stress, money spent, arguments, worries, etc. Being a bride is such a wonderful experience -- I told Tommy I want to renew our vows every five years, just so I can do it all over again, on a smaller scale of course msnwink.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
