Hi all! I'm narrowing down resorts, and it looks like one of the Iberostars will be our choice :) The wedding packages online are still reflecting 2009 prices. I'm assuming 2011 prices aren't out yet (we're thinking June 2011). My TA is calling next week for us to get more info.

Any tips & info to share? We're probably going to have a group of 40 - 50, including four kids under 8. I'm getting a bit nervous because I don't know how much extra a rehearsal dinner & reception will cost.

I'm an event planner by day for a non-profit, so I'm used to having a little bit more background knowledge & control in selecting vendors :) This board has been so helpful already, and it looks like all of you are well on your way!

Can I ask what flight/hotel rates u were quoted by them ? I'm trying to ascertain what a "good rate" is . A local TA gave us an estimate of 1596 for a week and nonstop is abt another 100.

Is this the going rate or can we do better?

Only a few people booked for a week. Most people so far have booked for 4 nights. My parents got 1600 per person at Iberostar Maya, direct flight from JFK including all taxes and transfers. I believe Lindo was quoted to us about 100 less per person.

I have a feeling that prices may drop soon with all the negative press about traveling to Mexico.

Hi everyone! I am getting married at the Tucan on November 11, 2011. I called the number listed on the website today for the event coordinator and spoke to Connie(?) She seemed to get frustrated with my questions and told me she would e-mail me the packages. I was surprised that she was less than friendly. Everyone has said what great WCs they have there. Anyway, I was supposed to get the packages e-mailed to me so I can give the 25% down, and I have yet to receive them, I think she may have spelled my e-mail address wrong. Does anyone have an e-mail address for the WC at the Tucan that I can use? I really need to put my deposit down and I need to contact them. Also, does anyone know if Connie is the WC at the Tucan or who it is and if they are pleasant and do a good job? Thanks!!!!

OK Girls --

I'm taking a poll . . . who booked using a flight & hotel "package" from a tour operator and who did the room block route?

I am now getting mixed feelings about the package route. Besides the fact I still have not heard back from my TA with rates (SO impatient! wedding's in 10 months and no rates to quote our guests yet!) what worries me about the package route is (1) guests don't have the flexibility to leave when they want. Everyone has to choose between a 7-day or 4-day leaving on the same dates (2) guests have to leave from the same airport, and (3) if people decide to book on their own and we fall below the 30 person minimum needed for the package, those that have booked with us will have their rates go up, etc. etc,

I am tempted to just get the room block from the Lindo and let guests negotiate their own flights. You can get great deals on airfare if you catch them on sale. And then I won't have to worry about all this nonsense!

Anyone have any experience with this? Does the package route save that much money?

Tara, my sister is our travel agent, so I lucked out. But she did the block of rooms. We asked a certain few to book early so they could hold the rate for others. We needed 10 rooms booked, (so about 20 people) and then the rates were set.

People can travel whenever they like and can leave from whichever airport fits them. Some are doing JFK, some Newark and I have family coming from IN, so they are leaving from Indianapolis.

Hey. Haven't been here lately but getting things done for the big day. To answer prev ? We did not get rooms blocked off bit we are up to 40 booked! Decided on the chapel after all due to the no of guests. Hady dress fitting today and it went great! I was nervous since I hadn't tried it on for a few months but p90 x os helping tone all those areas. Got passports, tuxes ordered and bridesmaid dresses in. Now we are just trying to figure out the dj selection- Ivan gomez sounds good even though dj bob was offered by wc as an option. My fi is a music fanatic so he is planning on getting our whole playlist on the iPod before hand. Have read some limited reviews on dj bob so trying to het that figured out asap. Now just to work on oot bags, attendents gifts, programs, and jewelery choices. We are having private reception at the jambalaya so we are going to decide on menu this weekend. My shower is next weekend. Getting excited as things are getting close. Happy planning all!

Anyone look into having their reception on the beach? I received an email from the WC at the Lindo and it lists "Beach Party" as one of the options. The picture is beautiful. They have a lit dancefloor and uplighting underneath the tables.

I was curious if anyone has seen this or knows what the lighting, etc. would cost.

I think the lighting came from the DJ, you can rent the floors, but I am not 100% on that. I didn't know that the dinner/party was an option on the beach, but things may be changing.

We are in the Chapel and then private rececption at the Italian rest.

I looked into having my reception on the beach. It looks fantastic! The problem for me was that they only offer buffet style dinner and both of our parents are against buffet dinner at reception.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
