Bali or Greece????

I've been to Greece a few times and I have to disagree with it being similar to home (well, maybe if Ireland is your home). While it may be similar to other locations in Europe it really is nothing like the States. With that in mind, although there is lots to see in Athens, I would definitely try and get off the beaten path and only stay in Athens for a day or two. Athens is VERY crowded and actually a little dirty to be honest, but it's worth seeing the sights. Once outside of Athens, the countryside and beaches are gorgeous!!!! I also recommend the Isle of Capri in Italy. The last time I was in Greece we first flew into Rome and spend a few days in capri and ferried over to Greece. I've never been to Bali, but Capri is the most beautiful place I've ever been. I think it depends what you're looking for though - a tropical island getaway (Bali) or some European culture and tourism (Greece).

I stayed in Crete for 2 weeks a while back. It's ok...Hersonissos is a real young person's party spot, that is why we went. If I was going to Honeymoon in Greece It would have to be Santorini or Kefalonia or maybe even Corfu -(as long as you stay away from the party areas & go for the remote & beautiful places). I know I wouldn't go to Crete or Zakynthos-I was in Zakynthos last September for my friends wedding...didn't like it that much to be honest. We stayed in Tsilvi and spent 2 weeks driving around to look at all the other towns...not great sad.gif. Kefalonia is where the Nicholas Cage film, 'Captain Corelli's mandolin' was filmed so if you want to see it, rent the movie wink.gif
If you choose Bali I believe Nusa Dua beach or Ubud are the spots to look at. Go on Tripadvisor and go to Bali...it will give you the hotels in order from best to worst as reviewed by regular people. I live by it, esp for photo's! I think you will get MUCH better quality in Bali. Unfortunately, Greece is the only country in the world that I have travelled to where the 'star rating' does not equal anywhere else! We have always stayed in 4* Hotels & they really do not compare to 2* back home. The Greeks rarely do 'luxury' the way we know it. Their plumbing systems on the Islands is terrible-be warned or be prepared!! LOL!!!! Try tripadvisor for both countries & see which you like the look of more!
Hope this helps!

Just an after-thought...but while in Greece we have met many people from The States that are Island-hoping. 3 or 4 days in one place, then another, then another. Lots of the islands are reachable by ferry! If you get a good TA this should be an option for you!

Thank you for the feedback!!! Greece is somewhere I have always wanted to go but after reading your note above I think I might be leaning towards Bali. For a honeymoon, I want to feel pampered and have a nice hotel room to enjoy.

I have to agree with you on Capri. I've been there before and it's just amazing and so beautiful!!!!

I think for a honeymoon I was just looking for something beautiful to wake up to every morning and enjoy the sights without having to deal with lots of people and traffic.

We're thinking about doing a Greek Island cruise. One of the ones that is on a yacht with 10-50 people. A girlfriend of mine did one for her honeymoon and raves about how private (but not too much alone time) and beautiful her experience was.

I vote for Greece but only cuz I've been there. I island hopped for 2 weeks and it is by far the most beautiful beaches in the world. I think Santorini would be a romantic island but seeing a few would be fun.

Keep us posted with what you decide...good luck choising:)

Bali! but I've never been to Greece. Bali is absolutely amazing. The nicest, hardest working people I've ever met. Its a great mix of relaxation and adventure. You can spend the morning biking through the country side, or rafting through beautiful rice patties, down waterfalls and through the rainforest, and then afternoon at the art markets and finally drinks and $6 hour long massages on the beach at sunset. perfect days! I can't wait to go back. PM me if you want more info, I was just there over christmas.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
