Our dresses were 40 each for the ladies (4 of them) - they bought them themselves. I plan on having a few special items for them at the resort as gifts.

Hi! I'm just wondering how many of you are paying for your bridesmaid's dresses and how many have bridesmaids who are footing the bill? Also - how much do the dresses cost, and how much of a say did your bridesmaids have in your choice? My answers: Dress costs $175, it was chosen by one of my bridesmaids (who tried on 5 that we chose together, and was REALLY excited about this one) Bridesmaids are paying for the dress, I am paying for alterations I'm just wondering if I'm doing the wrong thing here.. should I be paying for the dresses? I know there is probably another thread on here, but I couldn't find one with a poll like this and I would really like to know what people think! Thanks ladies!!

this thread is making me feel bad.. i paid for my 6 bridesmaid's dresses which were over 300! on top of that, got them a gift, plus paying for their makeup on the wedding day.. I figured they were spending so much to come, I should make it as easy as possible for them. I'm going to be broke after this wedding!

Man, that really sucks!!!We paid for our wedding party's attire, gave them gifts let them know 2 years in advance of our wedding. So the people that stood in our wedding didn't pay any extra than a regular guest would have. No one in our bridal party gave us a card or gift. Which I know they paid a great deal to travel but at least get us a card we went out of our way to buy attire, shoes, jewelry, monogrammed Champagne flutes, accessories that they can wear again and again not to mention their welcome bags filled with items Cups, flip flops, sunglasses, etc.... I have always paid for my own bridesmaid dresses and shoes outfits that I will never have a use for again (i.e. satin heels dyed purple with rhinestones) My girls had sundress with straw wedges. Our groomsmen we gave chucks. If I had to do it again I would only get the basic gifts that i was given for standing i.e. the monogrammed champagne flute. My effort definitely went unappreciated.
We paid for the BM dresses which were just under $200 each. They do not seem to appreciate that we paid for their dresses and 2 out of the 4 expected we pay for them which I think is really rude!

We are paying for the girls dresses and shoes... not sure yet about the guys. I was originally going to but wanted to get less expensive suits and now after talking to the groomsmen they would rather pay for their own and have a nicer tailored suit. So we are still figuring that out. I would like for it to be even for both the GM and BM, so we may pay for part of the suits (same $ for dresses). For the girls dresses though, I actually got them at target online and they were really affordable. Also, my mom is paying for my dress so it was easier to buy for the girls. Total for all 6 BM dresses, 6 shoes, my dress and shoes will be under $1000 which I think is pretty awesome
I think it's possible to pay for them if you want, but just look at places other than bridal stores for better prices. I just felt bad asking my friends to spend so much on the travel and also have them buy the dress... and it helped that I found a dress I liked for a great price.

I ended up paying for my bridesmaids dresses. I ordered them offline and got a good deal about 70 each. and we made a good amt of money from our wedding social so it helped. Im also considering this part of their gift
