Are you paying for your bridesmaids dresses?

Recommended Posts

I think it's a personal decision and also a cost factor. If you can afford to buy the bridemaids dresses because they are travelling down for your wedding, I think that's a wonderful token of appreciation. We wanted a fairly casual wedding, so my bridemaids are wearing nice summer dresses. I have 3 girls standing for me, and the dresses were $50 each.

But I have also stood in a number of weddings, and it's been about a 50/50 split as to me paying or the bride paying for the bridesmaid dresses. Just make sure you feel comfortable with your decision....and don't expect the bridesmaids to spend more than about $200 for a dress (since most times they still need alterations, another $50-100).

My future mother in law is a seamstress and is making all the dresses (MOH, BM, FG). I bought their shoes and parasols for the ceremony, wrist corsages for ceremony, and paying for their hair and makeup. I also made them silver linked bracelets and bought earrings for them. For the flower girls, they have bracelets and I bought them hair clips for the ceremony.

I just bought my 3 BM dresses. $95 each if they need alterations they will look after it. I agree with other girls that since they are paying to come then I would like to pay for this. My FI and I made sure that we had room for it in our budget first. I know it is not expected. My MOH and I are still arguing about it but I know I will win :)

I always had it in my head that making the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses was really bad etiquette. At the end of the day they're doing you a favour by coming to the wedding and being a bridesmaid.

Because of our budget I wasn't going to have bridesmaids for this reason, but seeing that the majority of your bridesmaids are paying for their own dresses I think I may go for it now.x

We went to David's Bridal since it was a chain and in multiple states for where different people lived. They had to buy the dress in my chosen color (dark purple, Lapis) but they could pick any dress. They are paying for dress and alterations. I felt better since I wasn't paying that they got to pick. The dresses ranged from $99-$175

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
