Are you paying for your bridesmaids dresses?

Recommended Posts

I haven't officially asked my friend to by my moh yet, but she knows she is at least in the wedding party.  After that she asked when we were going to go shopping for dresses.  Then she told me she would buy her own dress, I just needed to tell her what I was looking for in a bm dress.  I think I lucked out there as I was wondering the same thing if I needed to buy them or not.

While I dont think it is expected for the bride to buy her BM dresses, I think if its possible for you to work it into your budget, it is a very nice gesture. I bought my BMs their dresses since I knew each of them was going to have a difficult time even making it to the wedding and I thought it would be one less thing for them to have to worry about when trying to come up with the money to attend our DW. I waited until our local bridal shop was having a trunk sale and I got their dress for about $150 a piece with originally 6 BMs (now I just have 4... one BM paid me back for the dress cost, another still has the dress and refuses to answer any of my phone calls) Some BMs were very appreciative, while others didnt seem like they cared much rolleyes.gif almost like they felt I should have to pay for them since I am "making" them spend so much money to get to our wedding. Which is kinda funny because my home town is a very touristy beach town and if we had had the wedding there during the high tourist season, they would have had to pay only $40 less than they are paying to go to Mexcio at an all-inclusive... though no one seems to think it would have cost as much money, I actually made a spreadsheet for anyone that didnt believe me!

My fiance bought his guy their suits at about $220 a piece because he knew that they too would have issues making it down to the wedding and he is using that as his attendant's gift.

This is a post that must have read my mind ;) I've been wondering the same thing. I feel I want to buy my girls their dresses, if our budget allows it. Although it's usually something the bridal party knows is of their own expense, I thought it would be nice to help since they're already spending a lot to be there for our wedding. I really think it comes down to how much you have laying around in your budget and if you can really afford to do so. I don't think most BM would expect the bride to pay for their dresses, but I could be wrong. I know I discussed it with one of my BM and she said "are you crazy, why would you pay for our dresses?" So I assume if I didn't say anything they would pay for it without question.

Hope this helps

Good luck to you all =)

I only have one person standing for me, my sister, and she and her family (husband, two kids) are paying a lot of be at the wedding so I figure I would buy her dress.  I think it just all depends, I would be apprehensive about taking on paying for 5 dresses even at a more affordable price of $100/ dress, I mean yes people are paying an expense to go to the wedding BUT its not like there not going to get a full weeks vacation out of it.  Plus as the couple you have to pay for the trip, the wedding and everything else that goes in to putting it off.  I just think the consideration would have to be not choosing a dress that's crazy priced

But I dont know if people automatically know that as a bridesmaid they have to buy the dress.  Maybe if would be a good thing to mention before you ask them? I dont know how you would drop it in to casual conversation, but i know that until I started this whole wedding planning thing there is a lot of stuff I never knew.

Hola Chicas,

I posted in this thread a while back, and as mentioned throughout I too purchased my MOH & BM dresses.  That was my gift to them along with their brooch.  Hubby also paid for the guys suit, tie and cufflinks as his gift.  It was our way of saying thank you for traveling but to also lessen their cost.

Please check out my final planning thread, review and items for sale.  I have a lovely BM or MOH dress available.

Adios

My bridesmaid dresses came out to right under $200 with tax (and my discount since they were bought at same store I got my dress). I thought that was WAY too much to ask, so I paid $100 towards each girl's dress. They will most likely all need alterations too, so I am still feeling kinda bad about it, but the dresses are gorgeous and am very happy with my choice. Harder to choose their dresses than mine, LOL!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
