Please Help-I can't decide on a resort!

Recommended Posts

Cait you should email the WC for the resort (their email address should be on the site) and ask for the most up to date package details and price list. And maybe once you have your resorts narrowed down talk to a TA. there are some really great TA's on this website, i would contact one of them and they can give you trip costs.

I went with Iberostar Tucan. It is very affordable for my guest and they only host one wedding a day which sold me. I didn't want to walk around with other brides...I know selfish but I think that would have been a little weird. Also, the WC at the Tucan is great. She is very helpful and response very quickly. Good Luck!

I am not sure about the pricing for wedding packages but the Mayan Palace in Rivera Maya is my favorite resort I've been too in Mexico/Caribbean. Its family friendly and very accommodating. It's also close to town and they have great restaurants and shops in town (once again my favorite town!) I would be getting married there but my FI's cousin tried to get married at the Iberostar in Rivera Maya in 2005 and they all got hit by Hurricane Wilma. We don't want everyone to obsess over than (which they still do) Anyway - good luck its a great area!

  • 3 weeks later...

Just wondering Cait, did you book one yet? We too are in this predicament. First we thought of the Palladium, but it is just too large. Then we thought about Dreams Tulum and then read they do 3 weddings a day, and they are a little further away from the action than we wanted. Then (yes, my list keeps growing) we found the Paradisus Riviera Cancun. Has some really great packages (like the Chill-Out-Chic) which were more what we were looking for. Then I discovered the package does not include a legal wedding, to have it legal they charge another $1000 or $1500 - either way, it would have been about $10,000 total for the wedding package. Too expensive. So, we went back to looking at the Dreams Tulum and found out they have a new resort between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen that will be opening this fall (2009). Depending on when you get married I would suggest looking at it. Just give them about 8 or 9 months to work out the kinks. We are getting married in June 2010 and worry that will not be enough time to have things running smoothly or everything completed, so we are back on the hunt again. Now we are considering the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort

website: Riviera Maya Hotels- Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort- Riviera Maya Cancn/Riviera Maya Deals and the prices for the guests seem to be very reasonable.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying this research adventure. Keep us posted on where you book.

Hi Rachelle-

I haven't decided yet, but the process is coming along. Right now, we're thinking that realistically, people probably won't be bringing their kids, so we're starting to include adult-only resorts in our search. The front runner for them is hands down the Valentin Imperial Maya-where we stayed a month ago and LOVED. If we do decide to invite the kids, we're thinking about the Iberostars, Barcelos (Colonial or Palace), and Rius. I also looked at the Dreams Tulum, and like you, I decided it was a bit too far for us. I would absolutely be interested in their new resort, but I don't think I could wait until the fall to book-we're planning a late June/early July wedding, and I'd like to give as much notice to my guests as possible.

I will check out the Hotel Marina El Cid, though-thanks for the tip!

Best of luck in your search-keep us updated!

Hi Cait! I totally know what you are going through. I spent quite a bit of time researching resorts, it's addicting!!

At first we were set on the Grand Palladium. However, we wanted a private reception and it would've ended up costing like $70-80 per person to do this.

My family had stayed at the Iberostar Maya in 2006 and LOVED it. Originally I had thought it would be fun to get married somewhere else, but then realized that it made more sense to go with what we know. Especially since the Iberostar is AWESOME!!

We decided to get married at the Iberostar Del Mar for the following reasons:

1. It is the least expensive Iberostar in the paraiso beach area.

2. It is VERY close to the airport (20-25 minutes)

3. We love the Gazebo option for the ceremony.

4. You can have a private reception for only $800 extra!

5. They only allow 1 wedding per day.

6. They have golf onsite for a reasonable price (Very important to Fiancee and Dad)

Many other reasons too, but these are just a few. Ultimately it is all about what meets your needs. I definitely agree with everyone that you make a list of what's important and see which resort checks out.

Good Luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
