Receipts for Customs?

Recommended Posts

Dominican:

I brought an extra large suitcase and had it filled with clothes and gifts for my fiance's family. There was about 30 dollar store items, and about 40 shirts/shorts with tags still on them.

My fiance hired a man to help me carrying the 2 stuffed suitcases, and the man brought me through to the guys to search the suitcases. I noticed that all the other people on the flight didn't hire a man to carry the bags, and they just walked right around the corner to the kiosks.

When you fly into Punta Cana, after retrieving your suitcases, you are not "forced" to even go PAST a guard who searches.

This guy just flipped through the clothes, never inspected anything in great detail and never asked for my receipts. Never opened my makeup bag, or any other bags that I had in there.

I didn't have any of the medications you guys are talking about.

Hope this helps a little. But I'm not worried. I'm just not going to let anyone help me. The guys in my family can carry my extra suitcases that are not on wheels, and I'm sure I'll be fine (fingers crossed)

So we split up our bags but going through customs in Mexico we got the red light to have our bags checked. I had receipts for everything but we had batteries, fans, lanterns, cards, OOT bags, and beach mats. Everything was $1 except our bags were $3 we had less than $200 and receipts but they thought our receipts were fake and charged us tax. it was only $35 so we just paid it and went on our way. If we hadn't had the red light we would have had no problem.

seriously?! Wow! I'd say Mexico is a lot more harsh than Dominican. I did have mostly clothes in my suitcases. Maybe if I had more items something different may have happened? Still didn't see people getting searched in Punta Cana though.

Good luck Mexico Brides and by the sounds of it, bring your receipts!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
