Marriage License Drama!

Wasn't sure where to post this....its kind of a vent and a random thought at the same time! Our legal day is 7-17, and we recently went to the courthouse to get our marriage license. When we got there, we had to show our Drivers License, etc.... so we go through the whole process and get to the end and I realize that my DL (which I got when I was 16) says "Josie" and not my full name "Josephine" don't ask me how it got issued this way......but anyway, they will only issue the marriage license to MATCH the drivers license.....so it says Josie. We pay the $40 dollars and I ask if this will be an issue and the lady says "Yes"....but I can't refund your money now.

Oh, thanks lady! She basically tells me that I will not be able to change my last name after we get married because when I send in the paperwork my first name on my SS card and Birth Certificate (Josephine) will not match my marriage license - Josie. She tells me I have to go to the DMV and bring BC & SS Card and get a new license. No big deal, right? Well THEN, I get a speeding ticket and my license is taken by the cops.......so now I don't have one at all!!

To make matters worse, the place is only open on wed. and this wed. is FI's bday so we can't go.....so I guess I'll have to pay to get a state ID with "josephine" go back and get another marriage license that says josephine, and pay another 40 dollars........because even though I told the lady about the name issue, she wouldn't refund me! wow, like I don't have enough to do at this point!

Anyone else have weird issues with the marriage license?

OMG Josie!! That is the craziest story I've ever heard! What a moron that lady at the courthouse was though. I would have been fuming! Ugh. The cops took your licence for speeding? Did they temporarily suspend it or something or was it an accident? I hope this week is better for you!!

Ugh! They always take your license around here for speeding, unless you have a "bond card" which I don't. It gets mailed back to you after you send in money for the ticket and in my case traffic school too! boo. Thanks for the thoughts :) Thankfully there was no accident involved! I am so worried I won't have enough time to get it all straightened out.... I have so much going on! I guess you find the time though - especially for this!

Oh wow! Learn something new everyday! I had no idea that they actually take your licence in some places! Talk about adding stress to an already hectic schedule - holy crap!

Wow! How crappy is that?!? Sorry you have to go through all that, but I guess it's better to do it the right way now than to learn after the fact that there's a problem. Talk about icing on the cake - a speeding ticket? I hate that they take your license, I've had it done before & it sucks. If you join a motor club (AAA, etc) they give you a bond card that you can use for tickets (doesn't help you now, I know). Getting a state ID is def a good idea!

My goodness! I feel so bad for you girl! I would have gone Bridezilla on that courthouse clerk. I can't believe that they take y'alls license away for speeding! I have never heard of that. Thank goodness they don't do that here or I would never have a license, lol. *hugs*

Josie-

Aww honey that sucks. I hope you're able to straighten it out soon. Try not to stress too much....you'll laugh about it someday. Or at least keep telling yourself that.

I had an experience kind of like that-although not dealing with my ML. The small town I grew up in issued an ID card to me when I was 11 (we were traveling out of the country or something). Anyway, because my brother and I were homeschooled we didn't have yearbooks or anything to validate identity we had to have some notarized statements from people that we were who we were.

Long story short my name got put in as "Vicki" instead of my legal name "Victoria" and I went on my merry way for the next 8 years. They didn't even catch it when my DL was issued at 16!

So when I was going to renew my DL after I moved to go to college I got up to the counter and the not so polite clerk informed me there was a warrant out due to identity fruad!!!! I've never been in any trouble in my life so it was so scary to hear that! Obviously it got cleared up but it was a nightmare to fix-all because some small town police station didn't use my name as it appeared on my birth certificate.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
