just venting about the $$ NOT in my bank account

I'm pretty sure I completely over invested myself in all aspects of life this year. I worked extremely hard to save over 12,000 in the past year.

In April we bought our first house!! Yay! But I paid for the whole process & down payment (FI had no money saved due to his lovely ex) - total cost: THOUSANDS!

I'm in 2 weddings for 2 of my closest friends, and I'm guessing my other close friend will be engaged any minute! Anyway these weddings I'm standing up in, one as MOH are 3 weeks apart. Both girls have asked that we get hair & makeup done as well as shoes dress etc etc. Total Cost thus far for me participating in these : $1,800+

With the month of June comes FI's bday, My dads bday, and fathers day - total cost: $ 750. This is my own fault because I splurged on the Kegerator my FI wanted sooooooo bad....looking back I maybe shouldnt have spent the $500, but he's SO happy :)

Oh and this is my month of July:

Weekend of the 4th - Flying to boston

Weekend of the 11th - BF's wedding

Weekend of the 18th - Bachelorette Party

Weekend of the 25th - Different Bachelorette Party

Weekend of August 1 - Another wedding

I can just see the money disappearing.......so stressful! thanks for letting me vent about my broke a$$!

Sounds like life to me...

I totally get that it is stressful -- but on the brightside you are blessed with family and friends who adore you and want you to be a part of thier lives... and sorry babe... that costs $$...

Sounds like life to me.... and as my one of my co-workers says so eloquently "Visa has lots of money"....

Have a fun time at all those bachelorette parties!!!

Props to you on saving so much! I feel your pain though, it seems like as soon as you feel you are in a good place financially, one thing after another comes up. That is ALWAYS frustrating!

Look on the bright side though, as dolcegirl said, it's not on credit, so your not in debt. And, at least you are in a position to be able to do all those things. Can you imagine the stress of all those weddings and parties if you didn't have the money saved up?

Just have fun at all your upcoming events and don't look at your bank statements, LOL :)

you saved up $12k? holy crap!!

were you saving for something in particular? it sounds like you needed it with all of the big events happening in such a short period of time!!

at least you're aware of your financial situation.. i think that's the hardest part! people get in way over their heads because they don't keep track and think they can spend $$ all willy-nilly and it ends up coming back to bite them. since you're aware of all of these expenses coming up, maybe there are other areas you can cut back on? clearly you've got some mad self control being able to save up so much on your own!

Thanks Erin, that is so nice! I was saving for the house :) I saved $500-$700 a month and a few bonus checks from work, and all my b-day money, etc... I was on a mission!

I know I shouldn't complain because you girls are right, I could be in serious debt by now and there are tons of people working extremely hard trying to pay for their weddings, or put themselves through school, pay for their children, etc.... I really am fortunate.......I've just never shelled out such a constant flow of money before in my life! It's scary!

Woohoo! Definite self control!!! I wish we could save money like that, but seriously both being students, having a baby, Joe works full-time I work a couple hours a week and thats all we can do before having to shell out $700+ for daycare!

I'm glad you're aware of where your money is going and how to control it. Keep it up and you may surprise yourself! I definitely know the feeling of lots of money constantly flowing out!!! I only get paid once every 6 weeks (of course its a thousands) but since its only once every 6 weeks, it easily rolls out to make sure we're good for another 6 weeks for bills and a child and a little fun and saving money to move away etc.

If you can keep up w/ saving the money and eventually you'll have a month where you don't have much going on and you can make up some of it! I think if you can continue to save that kind of money each month it will become a good habit you'll find yourself really set financially

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
