Site visit to Hilton and Dreams

That is definitely a good question. I guess I am going to see which one is cheaper for my guests. Even though many people might be able to eat/drink $100 of food/drink per day, I know some that wouldn't. So, keeping those people in mind, I was going to compare the costs. If the difference is $50, I'd consider the AI, but if it's more than $100, my choice is clear - non AI.

I've always enjoyed the all inclusive thing on the cruises I've been on, but I went to a Sunscape resort in the Riviera Maya last year, which was an AI and is also a sister property for Dreams, and the food and service were bad, so that makes me a little hesitant. I should note that Sunscape is a notch below Dreams, so I would expect more from Dreams. Unfortunately, I have not tried the food at Dreams. I wish I had while I was there.

Also, although the AI is more convenient, I think it would be kind of restrictive, and since there seemed to be many great restaurants in Cabo, I would hate to stop people from trying them.

I think you made a great choice in the Hilton because the service seems to get stellar reviews. My head tells me I should probably choose it because it's the safest choice. I don't have any doubts about how the food and service would be. But when I saw Dreams, I just loved the character of the resort and the way it photographed.

Decisions, decisions!

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with your choice in Maye. Yes, she did seem to know Emeline, so I think they must have worked together since then. My fiance is pretty much insistent on me hiring a coordinator at this point, but I was a little hesitant at first because of the cost. I'm really glad to hear that she has saved you money compared to the resort's vendors.

Great review thank you it really helps to read them. As for the AI Vs. Non AI, I wouldnt put to much wait on the issue of Cabo being a great town and if booking AI worrying about people not getting to enjoy it. I am going with AI but am still planning on venturing into town two or three times while we are there. Just my small opinion though :). Then again when we go out we really go out so the fact that Ryan (fiance) can eat as much as he wants and I can drink as much as I want without having to stick to a daily budget really apeals to me, and my guests. But really its just a matter of personalities among you and your guests. Hope that helped a little.

For me and my group an AI doesn't work so well (lots of vegetarians, etc.) and my FI and I loved the Hilton. But I will warn you that a a wedding at the Hilton can end up costing a whole lot more than a wedding at an AI! Even with the set-up fees and costs for daypasses the food/drink bill at the Hilton will be higher. I never did make it down for a tasting but everything I've heard about the food there is great so I am excited!

have you considered any of the other hotels? Casa del Mar, where Natasha got married, is a gorgeous property with what looked like amazing food. I think she may have had some issues with them though so I would see what she has to say. Anyway it's right near the Hilton - it's not an AI but it has a true Mexican feel to it and it's smaller. Here's the link:

I am having my wedding at the Hilton this upcoming November, and we also met with Emeline when we were down there and loved her. I have to tell you though, as soon as we signed the contract, she became unresponsive. Now if I email her, it takes a while for her to get back to me, and there isnt as much hand holding as before. We are also using Maye, and if we werent, I would be feeling really scared during this process!!

I think that that is a very common phenomanon across the board with most hotels, etc. However I will say that your wedding is pretty far away and as you get closer everyone gets a whole lot more responsive.

I can't wait to go and get married and come back and give you guys the scoop!

Your wedding is so soon, Kashmira! It must feel awesome to have everything settled and ready to come together. I'm sure the Hilton will make sure everything from the food to the decor are perfect. I didn't get a chance to stay there, but I know someone who was there four times and recommended it.

I decided to go with Dreams. It was just a better "fit" for us. Plus, Hilton's group rate that was given to us did not include tax. Once I added that in and compared it to Dreams' group rate with tax, they wound up being almost the same. So, it made sense to go with the AI. I'm sure it could be different depending on the date, but that's how it worked out for us.

I agree with Kashmira that a Hilton wedding can be more expensive. Also, the rooms and restaurants are not cheap. However, the service and food quality was EXCELLENT. Our wedding guests were really impressed with the hotel and super glad that we chose it. It's all personal preference though.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
