Sheraton & Cabo del Sol Site Visit (6/7/09-6/13/09)

Recommended Posts

So we finally did our site visits!!!! We were in Cabo for 7 days and came back on Saturday (6/7/09 - 6/13/09)…wish we could have stayed longer! The weather was a little hot…everyone kept saying this June was warmer than usual. Donâ€t get me wrong, the weather was still very enjoyable!!!!

We stayed at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. We usually stay here or at the PB Pacifica. We absolutely love this resort, itâ€s so amazing.

This is actually one of the sites we were considering for our wedding…it was a very hard decision, but we are very happy with our choice!!

We got there on Sunday and got to relax for the rest of the day…but Monday came and it was ALL work from that point on!!!!! And this is were my site visit review begins….

Karla Casillas- Wedding Director

We decided to hire an outside wedding coordinator, and it was the BEST decision!!!! I canâ€t begin to describe how amazing Karla is!!!!! Both my FI and I hit it off with her from the minute we met her on Monday. She is so easy to work with and truly has your best interest in mind. Besides her knowing the ins and outs of Cabo, she has thought of absolutely everything thus far. A huge plus is that she is bilingual and speaks perfect English. Communicating with her has NOT been a problem….even before we met, she was very prompt at returning my calls and responding to emails. Since we have met, she has kept the consistency of service, she is very good at answering all questions, making suggestions, and responding to emails. She suggested several vendors to us and was not at all pushy if we wanted to see different vendors than those she had suggested! Thus far, she is amazing to work with and I love that she is so on top of every detail!

Sheraton Hacienda del Mar- Ceremony and After Reception Midnight Buffet

So we had about six sites we wanted to look at for our wedding. By the end of the first day, we had already made our decision and didnâ€t want to look any further.

Chapel- We selected the Chapel at the Sheraton for our ceremony, this chapel is so lovely. I wanted a “traditional†type ceremony so it was important for us to find a resort that had itâ€s own chapel.

Salon de Arco (After Party)- Music in Cabo must cease by 11pm in any outdoor venue, and we knew for a fact that our guests would want to celebrate way past 11pm. So Karla had the great idea to have an after party at one of the Sheratons indoor salons where we could have music way past midnight if we want to. As of right now, we reserved the salon from 11pm-3am, and will also have a “midnight buffet†for the after party, which will consist of a variety of tacos (shrimp, chicken, steak, pork) and Mexican sweet bread and hot chocolate. Just a little midnight snack :o)

Cabo del Sol (Reception and Dinner)

After the ceremony at the Sheraton Chapel, our guests will be shuttled in golf carts to Cabo del Sol (only about a two minute golf cart ride).

Cabo del Sol is a golf course with a private indoor/outdoor club house which is were our reception will be held. Cabo del Sol is the name for the small gated community and it is also where the Sheraton is located. We fell in love with the clubhouse because of the Mexican hacienda-style and décor. The pictures here do not do it any justice. We walked in and the views were breathtaking. Another thing we loved about this location is that the day of the wedding we will have the entire club house to ourselves and the only people there will be exclusively us and our guests.

Cabo del Sol has a Ladies and Gentlemenâ€s lounge for both bridal parties to get ready the day of the wedding. I thought this was such a special touch. The day of the wedding the bridal party will receive champagne and strawberries while they are getting ready, while the gentlemen will receive a bucket of beers, chips and guacamole! Both lounges have a terrace, lockers, showers, and restrooms.

Ana Guajardo- Cabo del Sol Sales & Events Manager

OMG, Ana was such a pleasant person to work with during our site visit. She was not pushy at all because the property sales it self…it really does! I look forward to working with Ana for the wedding. She is incredibly knowledgeable and so professional. We loved her!!!!!!

Mi Casa Restaurant- Welcome Dinner

Mi Casa is located in the downtown are of Cabo San Lucas. It is about a 10 minute drive from Sheraton & Cabo del Sol. The food here is AMZING!!!!! Both, my FI parents†and mine are Mexican, so I can spot AUTHENTIC Mexican food from a mile away..LOL. It DOES NOT get more authentic than Mi Casa!!!!!! Not to mention the décor and ambiance in this place….it is so lovely!!!!! Sorry, I was too busy enjoying the food, I forgot to take pictures…

Other Vendors We Have Booked for Our Wedding

Rev. Marco Arechiga- If I had a penny for every bride on this forum who has been happy with Marcoâ€s work!!!!!!!!!!!!! We did not have a chance to meet with him, but canâ€t wait to personally meet him during our final site visit in November!!!! He has already contacted me with so many questions and is putting together a ceremony that best fits our requests. Communication with him has also been great and responds to emails quick and is very thorough!

Angel Zapien (Video)- Angel met us at Cabo del Sol during our food tasting. The first sample wedding video he showed us and I was in complete tears!!!!!!!!!! His work is amazing and the quality does not compare!!!!!! We are paying $1200 for the first two hours and $500 each additional hour.

DeJaVu (Band)- We also met with Joaquin from DeJaVu. This is a four-man band, plus drummer, bass, etc. We listedned to his demo music on his website and they are phenomenal! He was extremely accommodating, he said if there were songs we wanted them to play and they didnâ€t know it, that they would learn it so that they could play it the day of the wedding! We are having them play from 7:30pm-10:30pm at the reception. His price was $700/hr.

Trio Los Mosquitos- Also met them at Cabo del Sol and they played a variety of songs for us during our food tasting. We are hiring them for the ceremony hour and the cocktail hour. They are incredibly versatile! They played their version of Canon in D (I will be walking down the aisle to this tune)….it left me completely speechless! Of course during the cocktail hour they will play more lively music :o) They are $350/hr.

Mariachi- We were not able to listen to them, but my WC coordinator highly recommended them…donâ€t have the name or info for them yet. All I know is that they are 9 musicians. They will play during the dinner hour. I believe their fee is $750/hr.

DJ Mijares- Did not meet with him either, but also highly recommended by WC and Iâ€ve seen pretty good reviews for him on this forum :o) He will be playing at the after party.

Ok, well I think thatâ€s it! I finally feel like we got the ball rolling….Ohhhhhhh yeah, and our wedding date is JUNE 12, 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!smile72.gif

Hope this helps, and if you have any questions please let me know :o)

Thank You :o)

We are expecting anywhere between 40-60 guests. We have our colors picked out (tiff. blue & ivory), but did not really have time to look at flowers and decorations while we were in cabo. Will definitely have some research to do between now and our next site vist :o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
