Shower taking place 1000 miles away from home

Recommended Posts

I just joined this forum. I am the mother of the bride and I decided to join this forum so that I can help my daughter with wedding planning. I am especially interested in ideas for long distance bridal shower planning. Our whole family (including bride and groom) live in one state, but the wedding will be in another state (where all of us once lived) over 1000 miles away. The dilemma is how does my daughter still enjoy the opening of gifts at her shower and still be able to get them home without enduring a huge expense? All ideas are welcomed.

Welcome Phyl630! We had a similar dilemma in that my mother in law's friends threw us a shower where my fiance is from (different from the province in which we live). What they did was they told everyone that we lived in Toronto, ON and where we were registered and people got us gift cards/gift receipts for items they had purchased and drew/took a picture of the item for us to open. We still got tons of beautiful stuff but didn't have to worry about lugging it all back with us!

Missy,

Thanks for your response. I guess you opened up envelopes which contained gift cards or pictures of the items people bought for you. I am also assuming that The people who enclosed pictures also took care of mailing the gifts to you? Did the store take care of the mailing? If it is a gift from a registry do you have to pay extra for mailing the item?

Phyl

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
