I've been reading the posts on these but I'm still a little confused about when to send them, etc.

I read somewhere that for DW it's good to send STD's about 8 months to a year out. I've looked at a lot of pics of STD's on here and they seem to include a lot of information. In STD's should I include--the date, location, and recommendations for guests such as hotels, etc. On your STD's do you have where your guests should RSVP, or do you then send out invitations later on that they should reply to on whether or not they are coming? I'm just confused on all of this & hope someone can explain it to me.

Thanks!

Courtney- It really depends on your personal preference. I would def. include the date and location. And for the info such as hotels and wedding location (such as a church) or reception location (like a specific restuarant) you can either include it, or you can create a wedding website. Have all the info on the wedding website and then just include the url on your STD. I put all the info on the STD including passport, hotel and TA info just in case people wanted to make their reservantions early before getting the invitation. It also helps get people excited and they are able to research the location.

I know a lot of the ladies on here put an RSVP in with the STD so you can get a basis on how many invitations to buy and know ahead of time how many people will be attending. But I only sent out 58 STD so I am just going to send them all an invitation as well and in there have a RSVP. I think it also depends on how much time is between your STD going out and your invitations. I know some people send a STD 2 years in advance just to let the family know it is happening. But 1 year to 6 mos. out is more the norm I think. Then send the invites out 6-3mos. from the date. I sent out my STD a little under a year from my wedding date and will send the invites out 6 mos. from my date. Hope this helps!

I agree that everyone has a different way of doing things and who have to do what works for you. With a DW I think a lot of traditional etiquette doesn't apply.

We sent our STDs out in January for our November wedding and only included our names, location, date and website. This was just to let them know about the wedding and if they wanted more info the website was up to date with everything.

Our invitations are standard formal invitations and don't include much else expect we listed our TA information on there and an RSVP date. Again they were directed to the website for more detailed information to save ourselves money and paper.

We sent the STD too soon to put an RSVP on there I think, from my experience a lot of people had no idea if they could actually make it or not in January and now we have a pretty good idea of who's coming or not and who we didn't even have to send invites to.

Good luck and don't stress too much, it all comes together!

I sent a STD with name and date, then travel info with TA contact, then tidbits about the airport and getting passports. I sent these 9 months out.

Then i sent my invites 4.5 months out. Traditional invite, with a response card. I also included an additional card that had the website info for travel info and info about the welcome dinner.

I wanted to give folks as much heads up as possible

I am also planning on sending out STD's with name, location, date and our wedding website. I'm not quite sure about RSVP's since our wedding is 10.5 months away. I don't know how many people will know defnitally that they can go to the wedding.

Also, my TA is sending out a mass email to my invites to give them the information ASAP since I want people to have the info a far in advance as possible.

For those who did put in RSVP's. What date did you ask them to RSVP by? The booking date that your TA recommended that everything be paid by? I guess I am a little confused with the RSVP's for a DW.

We're sending our save the dates out this week because the travel agent we're going through wants everybody to have their $25 deposit in by August 11th. She's holding a block of rooms but since we're getting married during a peak vacation time, she can't hold them very long. People can still book after that, but the price may go up. We're sending magnets that say "save the date," our names, the cruise dates, the cruise line and our website. My TA gave me payment cards so I'm going to include a brochure explaining the wedding, the cruise, and the pricing and payment plans.

Thanks everyone for the advice, opinions, and what you are doing. I still don't know what I want to do...I think I am for sure going to send STDs out a year before the wedding letting the guests know where, when, website, and then information about where we are having the wedding b/c honestly, most of my guests will not be very computer saavy lol. I just would like to know an idea on who can/can't attend the wedding, but I do feel like an RSVP would be a bit early a year ahead. Plus we are having our DW in the U.S. so it's not like they ahve to get a passport or even go through a TA. ...anyways hopefully I can decide on what to do but I really appreciate all the comments.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
