Stressed from Packing!!!! UGHHHHH

Recommended Posts

So we leave for Dreams Next Saturday June 20th.

We have a $hitload of stuff that we are taking with us.

All the OOT bag items, Bridal party gifts, Rafia Fans, Maracca place settings....& etc....

We decided to start packing tonight, because we wanted to weigh the bags to be sure they weren't over 50 pounds and we wanted to make sure we weren't stressing last minute about where all our stuff is going to go....

WELL 6 bags later...(4 checked in bags and 2 carry ons) we still need one more piece of luggage!!!

The problem is, if we check in another bag it;s going to be an xtra $100...Umm..Yea right...So my Best friend is lending us a smaller suitcase that she has extra & we have asked my mom & stepdad to take this bag, since they are the only people arriving the same day as us.

Out of the 6 bags we have, only ONE bag has BOTH of our clothes in it. We literally had to Roll every single item that we were taking so it would fit. We are staying week, so that's alot of clothes! Thankfully, I am taking lots of dresses, so it worked out, but I feel like I had to nix some things that I may want while I am down there..And I feel like I am forgetting everything sad.gif

We weren't able to pack any of Joe's shorts, our underwear, none of our shoes and I am about to go make all of my BM's Shirts (Iron on letters) and my Ring boy & Flower girl shirt too, so they will need to be packed. Not to mention a couple miscellaneous things.

After all that is said & done and we figure out that we'll get the extra bag from my BF and my mom will take it, I start to relax and I'm just happy that we settled it....I look over to my End table and I see the Velvet box that holds our engraved Toasting Flutes my sister got us for my Bridal shower. WTF...They HAVE to be a carry on item as I don't trust checking that in.

crybaby2.gif I guess now since I am allowed to take one carry on bag(Which is JAM packed) and a purse, I will have to go & buy a nice size purse so that will fit.

I really went over board with the amount of things I bought. Although, I don't regret any of it. I wanted it all and if it gets there in one piece with no trouble, then I will forget this day..LOL

But I really didn't think it would be this stressfull to pack and I know I had a lot of stuff, but I honestly thought I would start to pack and be pleasantly surprised & we would maybe even have extra luggage left. HA! Out of 9 pieces of luggage(two sets)..we have a small tolietry bag & a slight bigger bag left.

I can't wait to be in Mexico!!! Agghhhhhhh

Thanks for listening to me Vent :)

I can definitely feel your pain. We leave this week...and we have four large checked bags. One is going to be overweight on the way down...oh well...nothing I can do. It is better to be overweight and pay $50 then to use another bag and pay $100. And, now I need to figure out how we are going to carry everything that needs to come on the plane in our carry on bags.

OMG you girls are scaring me!!! I think I need to buy another suit case set!!!! Better keep my eye out for deals!!! I thought I would be able to impose on family to carry excess but now I am not so sure. I would get stressed thinking about anything I may have to leave behind! I would probably choose the wrong thing to leave!

How's this for an idea....my hubby suggested we take an old suitcase from the attic ( gosh only knows why we never threw it away before ? ) and fill it with the wedding paraphanalia we are taking for my daughter ( insulated mugs, table favors, silk flowers, sand ceremony vases, colored sand, etc) and pay the extra $25 to get it down to Jamaica ( we are flying AA ) & then just leave the old suitcase at the resort & have them give it away or dispose of it...then we don't have to pay for the return cost. I also found out its cheaper for us to take a total of 3 large suitcases than to pay the extra price if the weight goes over 50 pounds on 2 suitcases (which is $50)

Guess we are lucky that we aren't taking as much along as some of you are talking about...we are trying to make things a little more simple & less stressful. Good Luck to all of you brides packing soon & Best Wishes & Safe Travels to all !!

Mother of Bride.....KAY.......we will be IN JAMAICA in a week--can't wait !

It's nice to know I am not alone!! LOL

I think I am more stressed at the thought of when we get to Cancun.

How the HELL are we suppose to get all 6 of our bags, plus my Wedding dress, Laptop bag and my "purse" AKA another carry on bag..From the airport to our car waiting for us outside the airport.

I guess we'll have to get one of those carts, but I've never been to the Cancun airport, so this is going to be really interesting.

My Biggest fear is forgetting something important. So as long as we have all of the important stuff..I will be happy :)

  • 2 weeks later...

We actually started scouting yard sales a few weekends before we left, for the bigger size suitcases, so we could pack the wedding stuff. We were pretty lucky and found 3 for $5-$15 each. Once we were done with them we just left them at the resort, they were so cheap it didn't matter. We gave the extra suitcases to our parents as checked luggage.

The hardest part was staying under the 50lb weight limit for our airline, but it all worked out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
