Texas Brides?

Recommended Posts

amcarter- Thanks for the advice! We are going to drive to Galveston this weekend and look around at the different possibilities so I will definitely remember to check out the hotels. I was hoping to be able to hold the reception on the beach like we were going to do in Puerto Vallarta so I will be looking for the best way to do it that way.

autjo- I think it's mainly just blue icing that makes your mouth blue! Lol

I have had cakes with green and orange and it does not stain your mouth or teeth however testing it out is a good idea!

Hey ladies! Sounds like everyone's planning is going well. So, after some serious stress the past 2 weeks our entire wedding has been turned around. That house we were planning on getting married at this coming May that I was so excited about...yea, we had to get a refund on it so XOXO if your interested in a big house jump on that one. PM me if you want the info. To make a really long story short FI is going into the military and we just dont know exactly when we will be able to hold the wedding so we decided to put it on hold until we find out what his orders are going to be. Its ok though, I think it will work out for the best and this means not everything will be up in the air.

Info on Galveston weddings- Just got back from our 2nd visit there of shopping around for different places to use...I feel like I know that town backwards and forwards now. SOO much history!! Anyone wanting information on getting married at the beach, on the beach or at hotels there just let me know and I can email it all over to you. As quick little side notes though on information I have researched until I am green in the face: you can get married on ANY beach down there that is public without any type of permit b/c it is owned by Texas. You have to follow the beach rules which means NO vendors which basically means no reception. The house we were looking at you are on a private beach but the owner has given you permission so it is allowed HOWEVER alot of homes are on septic tanks or have parking issues which really limits you. I have tons and tons more info. but just wanted to give everyone a heads up on that.

P.S.

Galveston has now brought in sand to fill in the beaches and even Seawall looks fantastic now!

Blana,

Does the house you were going to rent for May allow receptions inside the house? I just called someone about a beach house on the East end which is rented out by Prudential and she told me they did not allow weddings inside the house but that if I wanted to have a reception on the beach I would need to get a permit. I'm so confused, lol, do you have any advice or anything that may help clarify this?

Thanks!

Just wanted to revive this thread! I'm a new DFW transplant, originally from Detroit. FI is from STL, and we figured everyone would have to travel one way or another- so why not travel someplace AWESOME! I'm really excited to get to know Texas in the meantime. Talk to "ya'll" later :)

good morning! I live in Houston Texas (just moved here two years ago from Boston - quite a change).

My fiance and I got engaged in Galveston - at Hotel Galvez - it was amazing!

We're in the same boat - family in Michigan, Boston, Chicago, DC...destination is the best way to go!

Hi Blana, I am from NJ but my FI lives and works in Laredo, TX. Right now we have worked our choices down to Mexico or the Barr Mansion in Austin.

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
