Custom made wedding dress in progress!

First off- it's beautiful! She has really done an amazing job, and in such a short time!!

I COMPLETELY AGREE with you about the empire waist...I don't see the harm in asking her to bring it in a bit. THIS IS YOUR WEDDING DRESS, and while yes she is doing you this HUGE, ginormous favor by doing it, you still need to be happy with it! Favors don't mean you have to settle. Not when you're the bride, baby! I dont know why she would be insulted by that, but you know her so maybe she would. Just maybe casually say "Hey, how much trouble would it be to nip in the empire waist a bit?" And maybe go through the pinning process with her so she knows how much you want and you can avoid having to have her do it a second time.

I think that if you go with straps, my vote would be for the lace with the spaghetti straps on either side. That would look really "together" to me.

It's beautiful and you look beautiful IN it! Go girl!

AWW thanks! and thanks for the advice. My aunt told me to be critical, but I was having a hard time. it's the damned time of the month and I was afraid that I was going to cry! lol My mom just told me that she knew that I wasn't happy last night. I'm feeling stronger today with my emotions, so I know I'll be able to talk to her.

Lisa,

The dress looks awesome! I do agree with you though that the empire waist needs to come in a little for a more fitted look. Once the corset back is finished, do you think that will help bring the waist in and maybe give your chest more support so you can go strapless?

I know you don't want to offend your aunt, but I don't see how she would be offended if you nicely offered your input to her. She's putting in all this effort... she wants you to love your dress!

Lisa that is gorgeous! I think your aunt is doing a great job of your dress and the lace is so pretty! :) I agree with you, I think the empire waist needs to be taken in to give you more definition, it looks too lose right now. I think if you want a strapless dress, then you should go for it, I personally think it looks better that way anyhow. Keep us posted on the progress!!

It looks great! Its so nice that you will have something that is original and specially made just for you. I agree also about the waist coming in. Is the back going to be a corset? If so, you can just pull the laces very tight. That may help. What about a sash? That may also help define your waist too.

Yes it will be a corset back. My aunt thought it may pull it in, but i'm not so sure. I tried to find a better bra today, but I haven't so far and I'm running out of places to go around here. booo!! I'll keep looking tomorrow I think.

AHHH this is frustrating!! sad.gif

Alrighty m'dear... I have some solutions and words of wisdom...

#1. you NEED to have the proper undergarments to be fitted to any dress -- wedding or not! Go to the lingerie shoppe at the southridge mall..... expect to spend +$100 - $150 at least for a proper corset. The ladies there are unbelievably fantastic and well educated in fittings. It is YOUR wedding and you are worth it... it will indeed keep the girls in a good place!

#2. Go for another fitting once you have this corset bra... you will feel much better about it and your aunt can fit the dress to the undergarments.

#3. Keep in mind that you don't have the tie up - corset back on the dress yet... once that is there the boning can be pulled closer to your body.

In closing, it looks fantastic! You are so blessed to have such talent in your family!

I agree with everyone else. The waist needs to be pulled in tighter. It will give the dress more shape instead of just hanging.

As for the straps....if you must have straps, I like the lace better. The plain spaghetti straps do not seem "dressy" enough for the beautiful lace on the dress. Before committing to the straps, I would go in search of a great supportive bra and try it with the dress. I really think that would solve the issue and you could have the strapless dress you want.

Thanks for sharing the progress. It is looking amazing. You are going to be a beautiful bride!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
