RIU Riviera Maya or Sandals Jamaica?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My fiance and I are currently trying to choose between SGOR, Sandals Montego Bay/Royal Caribbean and RIU Riviera Maya.

Any RIU Riviera Maya brides willing to say if there was there anything in particular that made it stand out to you? I am finding it really hard to choose because I've never been to Jamaica or Mexico!

Any help or opinions are extremely appreciated!

After doing a lot of research, I decided to go with the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Here are a couple of reviews from brides who have already gotten married there.

I picked Riu Palace Riviera Maya for a thousand reasons, a big one was that it's "easy" to get to... my travel agent told us that you can get cheap direct flights into cancun and be on the beach at the resort by noon!

Also reviews on Trip Advisor sold me :)

My biggest reason for picking RIU RM is because the wedding package included ceremony set up & dinner for 50 guests, and it was only $1,500. That blew away all the other prices I found. Plus, of course I LOVE the gazebo location:

Did you have a private reception, do you happen to have any photos?
Here is what the classic package includes:
RIU Royal Wedding Package 2009 includes:

* On-site wedding coordinator to help plan the special day
* Royal decoration set up for the ceremony location for the couple and 50 wedding guests or less
* Bouquet of flowers for the bride and a matching boutonniere for the groom
* CD or recorded music during the ceremony
* Twelve color photographs
* Reception dinner for the couple and 50 wedding guests or less at one of our specialty restaurants
* Wedding cake for the couple and 50 wedding guests or less
* Sparkling wine for the couple and 50 wedding guests or less (during the Main Toast only)
* Natural body exfoliation for the bride and groom
* Ten percent discount on all spa services for the bride and the groom (restrictions apply)
* Complimentary room upgrade for the couple subject to availability upon arrival (External Jacuzzi Suites are not included)
* Late check out for the couple subject to availability upon arrival
* Breakfast in bed the morning after the wedding
* Surprise gift and fruit basket
* Minister/Judge service & wedding certificate are included
* Witnesses if required

The Royal Wedding Package is available for up to 50 wedding guests plus the bride and the groom.

In order to have a wedding at our RIU Hotels & Resorts, the couple and the 80 percent of the total amount of the wedding guests must stay at the hotel where the wedding will be performed; otherwise it will be canceled.
*Guests staying in other hotels must purchase a day pass.

Those are 2009 prices, but you can check out their website at: Wedding Packages by Destination. Honeymoon Holidays. Weddings by Riu for more details.

I am not married yet, my wedding is in November. I am having a private reception and will post pics ASAP :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
