Save the Dates with invitations?

Recommended Posts

So here's the situation. We are setting up a website with all the information about the Mexico ceremony (Excellence Riviera Cancun, April 30, 2010). Our intent is to send out a save the date, with a separate note directing guests to our website for information on travel, accommodations, etc as well as to RSVP there. We're thinking this is a good approach because:

1. all of our guests are web savvy

2. it's convenient

3. it's "Green" (saves on paper)

4. it seems redundant to send a formal invitation several months later with the same information

Is it tacky to do it this way? My mom wanted to send invitations but when I told her of our idea, she said we could just send out announcements after the wedding.

That said, if we proceed in this fashion, would it be acceptable to send announcements with the AHR information? And, how much notice should we give for the AHR b/c that will require a trip and hotel reservations for people as well? There are also some people to whom we probably will not extend an invitation to the wedding but would like to see stateside when we return. We don't have a clue as to when or where that will take place and probably won't until just before the wedding. (It's announced on the website as TBD, but stay tuned...)

Any thoughts or feedback on this is very much welcomed....

Personally I don't think it is tacky at all. It's your wedding, you should do as you wish. msnwink.gif As far as the announcements for your AHR. I would just try to send them out as soon as you know when/where. How soon after you come back were you planning on having your AHR?

I kind of had a similar situation. We have some people that are coming to the destination, but then we have some people that we do not know if they are coming to the destination or just the AHR. We have decided that we are going to send them both invites. We have designed invites that will be the same invite for both the destination and the announcements, but different wording for each.

A lot of people are doing it this way -- I was going to, but as all your group is web-savvy, not all of mine are. My cousin is actually doing this -- through the knot and through evite. I think it is a great idea.

As with anything, as much advanced notice you can give people, the more time they have to plan. I'm with npaterson, as soon as you have a firm date, let your guests know!

I did save the dates with directions to our website. I will still do a formal invitation as although my friends and family are "net savvy" - there is informaion that I want them to take with them to our destination (maps etc) as opposed to stuff that needs to be organised prior to the event like accommodation.

I think your plan sounds ok! I am doing something similar but I think I will send out invitations as well- we are undecided yet on sending out the invitation to 'everyone' that will be invited to the AHR- which will be like 200 people- which we KNOW only maybe 25-30 people will go to the DW. So...I don't know whether or not to send the invitation to everyone or just immediate family!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
