Tips for travelling with your gown :)

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I read a story that was posted on here (not one of our brides though) where she packed her dress in her suitcase...her luggage was lost...when it was finally found, the dress had been stolen from the garment bag from inside the luggage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HORRIFYING!!! I say...GIRLS, BRING THE DRESS AS A CARRY ON!!!! So maybe there will be a little arguing at the airport...SO WHAT!! I rather get into a little fight with the airline desk person than risk having my dress lost or stolen!! Our dresses are IMPORTANT :)

I flew CanJet from Montreal to Cuba and I chose to just show up with my dress in a bag and check it as carry-on. They were a little shocked at the check-in counter, but I pretty much refused to budge on the matter. muscle.gif

So, they let me do it, stating I had to work out the logistics of the dress once I was on the plane. So, while we were waiting our 4 hour delay (yes, that's right 4 HOURS) a random girl walked up to me and was like: "Is that your wedding dress?" And I told her it was and she got a bit irked as she was ALSO getting married but she called ahead to the airline before showing up at the airport and they told her she wasn't allowed to have it as carry-on so she had to stuff her dress in a suitcase and check it!! I tried not to look smug, and I really did feel bad for her because the dress must have been SO wrinkled when she took it out of the suitcase!

In my opinion: Show up with your dress in a dress bag as carry-on. They'll find room for it. Even though we were on a small plane (with no room to hang the dress) the flight attendants were REALLY sweet and made sure the dress was laying on top of the luggage stored in the overhead compartment (the compartment was the perfect length!) and they routinely checked on it after turbulence and after landing. :)
Thanks for the info! I'm also flying CanJet from Montreal.
I will definitely show up with my dress as carry-on.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
