Yah, i definitely want to have welcome bags. what i'm going to put in them is still a mistery to me. i'm still trying to figure out how i would get 50-80 towels to Isla. i'm holding off on my bags till probably the beginning of december when i should have a better idea of how many people to expect.

Hi, I'm getting married at Privilege jan 2010. I'm curious, were you quoted $110 per person or $110 for a room with 2 people in it and was that their all inclusive rate because they have all inclusive and the european plan which is just the room. I have people who have booked already so I would hate to be paying too much for the room. But apart from that my experience so far has only been positive.

Hello girls! I'm new to the forum, but excited that I have found this! We are hoping to have our wedding at PA Nov 2010. I have been in touch with Elba and she is so easy to work with! We are going there for a vacation this December so I would definitely send pictures and information to anyone who would like to see. Thanks for the info that I've read so far, but I do have a question that I was wondering if anyone knew. Do people have to book rooms on the hotel's website or can they book rooms through expedia/orbitz/etc.? If you buy a flight + hotel package on a travel website it's a GREAT deal. Much better than the prices that were quoted. I didn't know if the hotel would allow us to have no rooms blocked but 80 people at our wedding? Does anyone know? Thanks so much!!

Hey sboone,

I just got back from spending the weekend checking out hotels in Isla Mujeres, Privileges Aluxes included... and what they told me was this:

You tell them how many rooms you think you'll need to block off; for us it's about 15. You give them about half the total money upfront as a deposit on the block. Then they give everyone a discount proportional to the group size. They told us the prices on the website were the ones they will be discounting.

Everyone has to book their room through the Reservations Desk (if I understood correctly) for you (and everyone else) to get their full discounts. You wouldn't be responsible for paying for any rooms that aren't booked in the block, however, and your deposit is credited to your final bill (rooms and wedding services), so in that sense, it's refundable as credit.

Hope this helps!

Kat

Sorry, sboone, just noticed your actual question was about *not* blocking rooms... Hm, I don't know if they'd be open to that, since their prices seem pretty reasonable already (especially compared to other hotels at the same level on IM). They did seem pretty flexible with wedding arrangements, but I bet you would find your prices hiked up on the little extras if you didn't book rooms through them-- you notice they don't post prices for the "extras" online. Still, I can't say with any certainty, so, guess I'm not much help after all! :) But the Reservations Manager's name is Edgar, and he is who you would talk to about it. Have a great time there in December, you will love it!

Hey there, sorry I haven't kept up with this thread for a while things have been so busy since we got married at the end of August. I'll pop back with a proper review of the Aluxes soon. At the time we were quoted $110 for a room with two people in it and this was on the european plan. As Isla mujeres is so wonderful and varied for sampling some great cuisine we preferred to eat away from the hotel during our stay. I'm sure you'll have a a beautiful wedding, best of luck.

Sorry I have been so busy that I haven't checked back in for a response. Thank you so much for responding. It is very cheap to book through them, I was just curious because, depending on where you are flying from it can be cheaper than that if you book with a package. That's a good thing to note about the little extras costing more! I'm totally not trying to screw over the hotel, but I was my guests to get a good deal. Thanks again for the response! We are so excited to go!!

Hello ladies! It's been a while since I posted, it's been extremely hectic! I'm actually at Privilege right now, relaxing on the balcony and enjoying the lovely weather. I've been having some pretty negative experiences with the hotel. Like they released my room block earlier than my contract date, resulting in 6 of my guests staying at another, much more expensive place AND they aren't apologetic about it. And there's now this 10% service charge that's appearing on the dinners I had planned, even though that wasn't mentioned at all before!! But there are some positives as well, the staff are wonderful and the drinks are plentiful! I'll try to check in a couple more times, let me know if you have any questions!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
