I actually had this as my second/fall back resort. Ultimately, after talking at length with my TA, I decided to follow through on my original choice. The only true problem(s) I had with the place were that the beach is across the street. I didn't care much for the whole "some of the rooms in back face the cemetary" thing....but I could have lived with it ultimately or whatever, but the beach access was just really something I knew I had no chance of convincing Billy to deal with.

I have heard that things are coming together nicely and any problems encountered with previous guests were the normal "start up" kind. The manager is supposed to be spectacular and really tries to please the guests.

So far I've been working with Elba, the wedding coordinator, and she's been super responsive and flexible. But I'm a little worried that it's too good to be true, especially the cheap rates. On the website the standard rooms for 2 people in January are ~$150, and Elba has indicated the possibilty of a 40% discount. Willeme, if you don't mind me asking, what room rates did you get?

Thanks,

Tina
Hi Tina,
Were you quoted $150 for the all inclusive plan plus the 40% discount?

Hi Savanna,
Are you planning on doing any day trips/excursions with your guests? I can't really seem to find much stuff to do there that would be good for a group.

I have a list of area attractions on our wedding web site. Some are "mini" attraction types of stuff, but there's definitely enough doing there for a group outing. There's always the Dolphin Discovery as well as Garrafon Park. I know Garrafon Parkhas a zip line and guided tours/restaurant. I heard that one can be pricey, but it's definitely fit for a group outing. There's also the sea turtle farm, and I know most folks who visit try to make it through there while they are on Isla.

Hi Sheena,

I hadn't firmed any guest count up with them but I think I said about 60 guests. My price quote was slightly lower than yours by like $10, but I'm also going earlier in the season so that may account for the price differential. If you do decide to negotiate with them for a lower price, PLEASE don't mention that you got this info from me or from another guest planning a wedding there (they could probably figure out it's me), since that may make them pissed off at me...I want a good relationship with them, at least until after my wedding :P Thanks! :)

Sheena, I was planning to just let my guests know about some of the activities available but wasn't going to try to plan a large group thing; I think my group would appreciate flexibility since some of them are treating this like a vacation separate from my wedding. So I'll post information about some activities [like a day trip to Isla Contoy or a golf cart drive around Isla] but not try to organize all 60 guests into doing something.

I am trying to put together a sunset cruise as my welcome dinner, but 60 people wouldn't be really convenient/comfortable on it. So I'm waiting to see what my final guest list count is before moving forward with that

Don't worry I'm definitely not going to say anything about the rate - after all its really cheap compared to other places.

I was thinking about the sunset cruise as well - the pirate one - but i wasn't sure if its cheezy or not.

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to let you know I signed our room block contract last Friday. Itâ€s FINALLY official; we will be getting married at Aluxes on April 24, 2010. No turning back now!

I am waiting until I receive a wedding coordinator before I dive into all my questions.

In terms of menus, they only sent me a one pager, and Iâ€m assuming there are more options. I will let you know when I receive more thorough information. They did make a comment about being able to customize a menu, which Iâ€ll probably do.

What about flowers? I was thinking of buying them from a wholesaler and having them shipped directly to the hotel. I wonder if they would set them up for us. What do you all think?

Are you all doing a rehearsal dinner? If so, have you made any concrete plans with the hotel?

Are you all doing a traditional reception with dinner and dancing? If so, have you made any concrete plans with the hotel?

Iâ€d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks ladies!

Best,

Rachel

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
