Hi everyone! I'm thinking of getting married on Isla Mujeres in January 2010. I've found this new hotel called Privilege Aluxes that seems awesome; I was in Isla a couple weeks ago and the outside looks awesome but don't know what it's like on the inside. Has anyone been there?

Also, I've been working with Elba on the wedding details and she seems really awesome and is very responsive. Has anyone had a wedding there or know of folks who have?

Hi!

I am also considering Aluxes for my wedding in April 2010. I am currently working out contract details. I have not been before. I did a site visit to Mexico back in April, be we did not go to Isla while we were there. We were planning on Playa del Carmen, but ended up changing our minds once we got back.

I would love to stay in contact if you end up using them. They seem super flexible and willing to work with us on our requests and ideas-which is nice. Most of the other hotels would not budge on a thing.

Did you take any pictures while you were there? I would LOVE to see some actual pictures and not just website photos.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for posting!

Best,

Rachel

Hi ladies I just wanted to say that Fiance and I are getting married on Isla Mujeres at the end of August this year. Although our actual wedding is taking place at a private beach club on the island we are spending most of our stay and our honeymoon at the Privilege Aluxes.

You can search for Privilege Aluxes on trip advisor, I think there are some reviews from people who've already stayed there including recently a honeymooning couple! there are some candid photos too. I hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks for the info, Willeme, and I'll definitely keep in contact with you, Rachel. Willeme, could you post back on your experiences at the Privilege?

So far I've been working with Elba, the wedding coordinator, and she's been super responsive and flexible. But I'm a little worried that it's too good to be true, especially the cheap rates. On the website the standard rooms for 2 people in January are ~$150, and Elba has indicated the possibilty of a 40% discount. Willeme, if you don't mind me asking, what room rates did you get?

Thanks,

Tina

Hi Tina, yes I'll definitely come back and tell how our experience goes. as the Aluxes is new I think they had a few teething problems initially but are doing a really good job of catering to guests now as far as I can tell. I gathered that the reason they may have cheap rates at the moment is because they are still fairly new.

I wouldn't worry too much, Elba sounds very helpful from what you have said so far. We would probably have had our wedding at Privilege but at the time we were looking to book our wedding it hadn't been completed. The rates we got at the time were roughly about $110 for two people. If I can help with anything else just let me know. I'll definitely keep in touch, wishing you all the very best .

Good Morning Tina,

I wouldnâ€t worry about the rates. I have been quoted the same. They have a promotion going on at the hotel that indicates if you book your room by the end of 2009, you are eligible for 40% off. I am going to encourage all of my guests to book early so they can take advantage of the deals before our wedding in April of 2010.

I know the feeling about to good to be true. I have been dealing with VERY inflexible and unaccommodating coordinators from all over the region, from Isla all the way to Puerto Aventuras. Elbaâ€s willingness to work with me and create something special is why I decided to go with them.

Have you signed your contract yet? I sent mine back with some questions regarding some of the terms and the deposit for the room block (what is it for? Etc.). I do fundraising and event planning for a living, so I am extremely familiar with hotel and venue contracts. I am super picky about what I sign. I am curious how this is going for you.

Best,

Rachel

Hi ladies. I am getting married in May of next year on isla mujeres. We are not using a resort to have our wedding, but I am planning on having my guest stay at Privilege Aluxes. The resort looks beautiful and you cant beat the prices. Right now they do have a special where if you book before Dec 2009, you can get 40% off the rates. I have been in contact with someone with reservations, and they informed me that they will use your credit card as your reservation, but wont charge it, and you pay once you arrive at the hotel.

Sounds really good. I am going to encourage my guests to book before the year is out.

Whew, thanks for all your calming advice ladies! Rachel, I haven't received the contract yet. That was one of the sources of my anxiety, Elba (and I) had requested the reservations department to contact me but it's been a week of no info. Of course, in my crazy mind this means something catastrophic :P but Elba informed me today that the department was moving around and that's causing some delays. If you wouldn't mind, Rachel, I would love to see a copy of your contract and some of the concerns you had? I have no experience with this type of activity and would probably benefit from your expertise [of course if you don't want to, it's no problem too!!]

Thanks!

Tina

Like Willeme said, the rates are cheap because the hotel is brand new and they're trying to promote the property and build a client base. Take advantage while you can! We're probably going to end up getting married at Zama Beach Club on Isla Mujeres and Privilege Aluxes is looking like a top choice for accomodations, for us and our guests.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
