Musical chairs reception seating plan!!

I was flip flopping back and forth between having a seating plan, or not. We have a medium sized group joining us for our DW 24 + us. So 26 in Total, which is an awkward number to sit I find. The usual questions: Do I want the stess of a seating plan? Or do I want everyone to partner off with their cliques?

 

For a U shape reception you have 1 table of 10 and 2 of 8 – which I kind of large and uneasy for conversation. That and I have been at head tables before, and I find the conversation stale and not so entertaining. That and in my French Canadian (Quebec) culture, there is rarely a bridal party (witnesses are family members, and head table is for immediate family). That and I wanted to be able to talk to everyone! I mean out guests are going all this way for us, and a vacation, but still...And why should our wedding party get all the fun and attention of the bride + groom!

 

So I was venting to my MOH and said “ I wish I could just to a Musical Chair reception”...we both laughed it off and then pouf! Epiphany!!

 

We will have 4 tables of 6 = 24 Each table will have 2 empty seats for the bride and groom! After we are done eating one course, we rotate move to the next table!

 

We get to talk to everyone!

No one feels out of the loop!!

It is just the Bride and Groom moving, so we will tell the wait staff to have plates and settings for the 2 empty chairs per table.

So my futur husband and I just go to the next table!

Great idea! Seating people together can be kind of tricky, especially when they don't know each other or have anything in common. Keeping them to groups of 6 sounds like a great idea!

LOVE this idea!! Wish I had thought of it. I also wish we had done assigned seating in the end. It was truly a mess without it and my only true bridezilla moment of the entire wedding (picture my mom moving like 4+ chairs to her table right before the first dance so she could have 12 people at her table, leaving just DH and I at our large round table to ourselves....) We had the same amount of people that you do.

Haha France talks to Quebec !! We did exactly the same thing !

At the beginning we were supposed to be 33, we were doing 3 tables of 10 with 2 empty "reserved" seats each table. When we turned out only 23 (thanks Swine Flu), I rented one more table and we put the tables together two by two - a "family" table and a "friends" table. Each table was 11 or 12 - 4 on each large side, 2 on each small side. We justed made a "table" plan - who should seat at which table - without actual seating plan (where to seat at the table). Also allowed us to have place cards with everybody menu choice. We changed table in the middle of the dinner. Was perfect
