I actually went with the free wedding package offered by the hotel. I also did not receive a room upgrade as I had already booked the best honeymoon suite at the resort. June is a very busy season so if I had not booked the best room I would have been out of luck and stuck in a regular room. The hotel was completely booked to capacity in June. There were a lot of weddings and also a lot of vacationers. I also met a fellow bride to be (via Forum) prior to my wedding and she was scheduled to marry the week after I. I also helped her plan as she had 70 guests and believed that she would have been able to get all her planning in upon arrival. After returning from her wedding she was extremely happy that she listened and actually planned ahead, as she also said Chandlyn was not much help.
I did visit the resort prior to making my final decision on the resort and knew exactly what I wanted and what to expect from the trip. So when I planned I knew where I wanted everything location wise, hence all the detailing. I met with Chandlyn when I visited the resort the first time and basically got all the information from her at that point and also took lots of pictures of the location.

I actually did not use much of the resorts services- I used an off site photographer, DJ, MC and had the resort bake a sponge cake which no one even touched (gave away to the waiters and waitresses) and also had another 3 cakes brought in which everyone loved.

It is so great to have you here. I would love to see some additional photos of your reception in the plantation. I am having my reception in the plantation with 67 guests so far and have no idea what the set up looks like or how to arrange it. My email is [email protected].

Thanks so much!!

Wow, MomentUs it is so great to have you here! Thank you so much for being so willing to answer all of our many questions! :)

I just have a few for now... I noticed during your ceremony you had microphones to speak into.. is this something provided to all of the ceremonies or was it something you had to arrange because of your large group? I was thinking that might be nice to have so everyone can hear!!

Non-wedding related: How was the resort in general? How was the food? Did all of your guests give the resort and the service two thumbs up? I just want everyone to have a great time and I want them to love it! wink.gif

Thanks so much!

The first thing I did was send out STDs, so I could get an idea of how many people were coming. Then, I contacted Chandlyn to reserve the restaurant for my reception dinner. Let me know if you need help with either of these things. You have awhile, so don't get stressed yet. We'll help you along.

Thanks Lizz!!

I am going to get started on the STD's first then and then think about whether or not I want to have a shower. I don't like the idea of asking people for gifts if they are not going to be at the wedding so I was thinking of just having an engagement party so there will be both men and women.

Do you have Chandlyn's email address?

I sent out a magnet that said: Save the Date for the wedding of Mike & Lizz May 16, 2008 RIU Ocho Rios, Jamaica and our website address. On the website, I have all the information about the trip: passports, my TA name and contact info, etc. If you do a search on this forum for Save the Dates, you will find a lot of different examples of what the girls used.

I didn't have an engagement party. My bridesmaids are planning on throwing me a shower. I said they didn't have to, but they insisted, so I did register for gifts. I really don't want people to get me gifts if they are coming to my wedding since it is so expensive, so I've told my family and friends to sort of spread the word that a gift is not expected.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
