My fiancee and I would like to get married in Hawaii in September. It's going to be just the two of us so very simple, with not much planning needed since there won't be any guests.

We are both envisioning a cliff setting overlooking the ocean. Does anyone know of any particular locations that fit this description. Neither of us wants to be in the sand for our wedding. The other option is a garden setting, but a cliff or high bluff is more ideal.

Also, I'm thinking about using Merry Maui Weddings to help with the planning. They seem reasonable in price and very professional. Since it's just the two of us, a simple, low-cost wedding is key. Main concerns for us are location and of course, we want great photos to show everyone back home.

Any other tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I wish it could just be the two of us for our wedding... our families would kill us though!

This is suppose to be Maui's "only" wedding cliff site.

I would think along the Road to Hana there might be some spots:

I don't know where this is in Oahu but it looks wonderful. You're not getting married in Oahu but I thought I'd just share the find. I figure that's what you are looking for, and it I just liked the pictures! wink.gif

A really incredible cliff setting is Lava Point at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua (which is on Maui)! We are having our wedding there, but we've got too many people so our ceremony will be on a lovely grassy knoll just above the Point. Check out their pictures on their website: Maui Wedding Planners: The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Weddings. It would work perfectly for your very intimate wedding as well, as they limit the amount of people on the cliff to 8 (I think).

The Ritz is expensive, but in our experience with them thus far, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! The service there simply knocked our socks off, and everything about the resort is peaceful, romantic, and simply stunning.

Since cost is a concern, if you didn't want to stay at the hotel (which is having ridiculous deals now that travel is down so much because of the economy), there are much less expensive hotels very close by that you could stay at while still having your ceremony at Lava Point. One in particular that we will probably have our guests at is the Mauian. http://www.mauian.com/accomm.htm

Good luck, and happy searching! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I must agree with Lisa, The Ritz at Kapalua is BEAUTIFUL!!! It's about 10-15 minutes from all of the "action" so it's very romantic, quiet and lovely!

You could always stay there 2 nights and then go somewhere else. We stayed at the Royal Lahaina and it was very beautiful and quiet. I recently looked online (I want to go back) and noticed the Ritz was only about 200-300 more than the other hotels.

We took pictures on a space overlooking our beach wedding. It was a little cliff like. That was just on Kapalua Bay....public area. Not sure if it'd work for you, but you may want to look at it as an option.

(the space is actually the green area just over my shoulder. On one side there are these rockly outcroppings that are more dramatic)

Thanks for the tips. We've decided to get married on Po'olenalena beach at sunset. It looks like there are some nice rocky outcrops that will work perfectly. And I've decided to go with Marry Me Maui for the planner. It's just the two of us so it's pretty cut and dry. I'm just super excited that I now finally have a date set (Sept.21) and have our lodging booked. I cannot wait!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
