When to send out AHR invitation/wedding annoucements?

Recommended Posts

I was going to initially send my wedding invitations out about 8 weeks in advance, however since I'm having a destination wedding and an at home reception (a couple weeks after we return) when should I send out the wedding announcements/invitations for the AHR? Should I mail them out right before I go, or should I do them at least a month in advance. I will have some people coming from out of town, but the bulk of my family and friends will be local. The friends I have coming from out of town I can just let them know a little bit ahead of the invitations and assist with travel accomodations.

Let me add that I won't need RSVPs technically. The UAW hall where the reception will be held holds a lot of people. My family will cook enough food so that if 600 people come we'll be alright. I've seen it happen. LOL

OMG, my MOH has been on me for a month about getting our AHR invites out. We have decided to mock up an e-vite and send it out next week. It gives our guests about 6 weeks to decide, with the ability to immediately RSVP.

However, I should probably mention that my mom and sister (MOH) have completely scolded me for not getting them sent out yet. Whoops!

We're having our destination and home reception RSVP's on the same invitation with the same date. Our AHR is a month later...but we don't want to send out two separate invitations...we think it's a waste of paper, postage, money...and more mail that our guests will get confused with! So...together it will be! Our wedding is January 8th and home reception is February 6th. We are planning on sending them out beginning of October, with an RSVP date 2nd week of November. Hope this helps!

Our AHR is two weeks after we get back and I wanted the RSVP deadline to hit before we leave which is 1 month prior to the reception. So ours went out about 10 weeks in advance (with the wedding announcement) giving them 6 weeks to decide whether or not to come. Of course, apparently no one seems to think you need to RSVP anymore as pretty much only our parents have done so! LOL!

  • 1 month later...

Do you guys think that I can send the AHR invites out at the same time as the DW invitations?

We plan on only inviting about 30 ppl to the DW, (immediate family and close friends only) and will invite extended family and other friends to the AHR. Our wedding is tentatively booked for April, and I don't want people who know about the wedding to feel insulted that they aren't being invited to the wedding...but if they recieve an AHR invite, maybe they will feel included?

We plan on having the AHR either in late May or early June, about a month after we get back...

On the other hand, since I will be inviting the same people to the DW as to the AHR, I don't want certain people who are invited to the wedding to decide not to go because they have another option... (ie grandparents)

What do you think??

I have a guest list of about 180, I have 60 coming to Mexico in November. I arranged a group travel discount for my guests through a tour operator. They had to book by June 30th, basically this was my rsvp to the wedding.

My invites basically say wedding to be held at Riu Santa Fe Los Cabos November 19, 2009, Reception will follow in (hometown) on December 12, 2009.

I will be sending mine out in October as i know how busy a Saturday in December can be for ppl, so close to xmas, there will only be an rsvp for the AHR, not the ceremony.

This is exactly what we're planning on doing. I really don't feel like dealing with 2 sets of invitations, and I think it may get confusing to some people as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is 3 months in advance too early to send out AHR invites. The girls above are sending them out about 10 weeks. Our wedding is November 5th and I wanted to mail out the AHR invites so people get them while we're away. It's all becuase of the wording I've picked for the invites.

Related question for everyone. We are planning on sending the wedding and AHR together as well. We are having a formal AHR and need to know number counts for that as well as the DW. Did you plan on sending 2 response cards- 1 for the DW and one for the AHR or just one combined response card for both events?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
