I love that we are having a destination wedding versus a regular one. I personally am not excited by or interested in a traditional wedding at all. At first my parents weren't excited but I think now they're really looking forward to it.

I think it's really important to decide what is right for you and your FI. A DW is right for some people and not right for others. Talk it over and see what you guys think!

The one thing I would keep in mind with cabo however is that of all the places in mexico it is probably the most expensive.

we had more show than we planned as well...thought 15-20 and ended up with almost 60.

that's a good attitude. We expected a MAX of 90 but more like 75 and we ended up with around 135. Yeah, a lot more than we expected. It was a blast though!

i have been worried about everyone else the whole time of my planning especially my fmil. my fiance tells me that i need to do what makes us happy an d not worry about anyone else, if they don't like it don't go. i am better about trying to have that attitude. you will get there. just really try to focus on it being more than a vacation....its YOUR wedding!!!

Welcome! I think the ladies have given you some great advice. I also think it's natural for some family members to get upset. I guess Aunt Merdle just wouldn't be happy in life unless she could see her niece get married. odd to me, but it happens to everyone.

You just need to think about what you want for your wedding. When you close your eyes and imagine your perfect wedding, what comes to mind? If it's you and your FI on a beach, by a waterfall, etc. - go DW. If the first thing you think of is a large group of your family and friends being there with you, maybe a DW isn't for you.

No matter how understanding your family and friends are, there will be fewer present because it is a DW. After being on this forum for about 9 months and reading a ton of posts, I can say I have one of the most supportive group of guests a DW bride could want. And even with that, there are still people who can't come. Some are pregnant and won't be allowed to fly by that point, some can't afford it. These are normal guest "casualties" when you have a DW. If that is something you are ok with - go DW.

              Welcome and good luck!!!

If this excites you - go for it!

I was kind of the same way in imagining my own wedding. The classic church/reception scene just didn't quite do it for me. Then I remembered that my Dad (on his 3rd marriage, lol) had gotten married in PV when I was about 12. It was SO MUCH FUN! There were around 50 of us that went down there, and everyone had a blast. It was a great experience.

My sister also did a wedding away from home in Aspen, CO. That was a lot of fun too.

I love the excitement of something different. Yes, we have already been called "selfish" by Martin's older bro and told by his Mom that "Grandma won't agree w/this" but we know in our hearts that we want to do this. It's a very special dream for us and I think the people that really care the most about us and visa versa will be there (even after all the things they might say along the way).

Haha, I really need to remember this post - I think it's good advice that I need to remember myself!

We all stayed at The Marriott in P.V., and Honeymooned at The Royal Plantation in Ochos Rios, Jamaica!
