So I've never heard of Etsy until a few days ago and I've become obsessed!

I'm thinking about ordering a custom clay cake topper from a seller called "Enchanted You"... I'm considering a customized "Back to the Future" cake topper... yes, my fiance has a bit of a nerdy side! The woman said the cost would be about $250 plus $25 shipping. This seems a little high to me but there is a lot of detail she'll be putting into it. Is this a reasonable price?

$250 is likely a reasonable price for the work she will do - but the question is whether you want to spend that much.  I spent $150 on a cake topper - I posted a picture in the cake topper thread (post #82):

I think the money was worth it because it will be a surprise for him on our wedding day (our dog is on the cake topper and I know my fiance wishes the dog could be there) and it is something that can be displayed after we get home (likely with the sand ceremony frame).  But I might not think it was a good investment if I weren't planning on displaying it.  So maybe thinking about what you plan to do with it after the wedding could help you make a decision.

RyGuysBride -

We also had a clay cake topper in which we paid $200 plus an extra $20 for a rush charge.  Our lady on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/people/annacrafts)  did an AMAZING job and our cake topper is probably one of our most treasured details.   I'm attaching a few pictures of our cake topper. :)  It included myself, my (now) husband, his camera (he's a photographer), my bouquet, and our two pups.  We LOVED it  and it still means so much to us. :)  BTW - anna was amazing and we received our topper about 3-4 days (from S. Korea) after getting it.  She was super responsive and hit every single detail I requested :)

Hey! What a great keepsake! I like that the faces are a little more realistic looking. I'm thinking of this as a surprise for my fiance and I know that it's something we'll keep forever! The lady I contacted got back to me with a bunch of great ideas and ways to customize the Back to the Future theme and she's got me really excited about it! I think I'm going to splurge and order!

We did e-vites and our friends and family LOVED them. I hate wasting so much paper and so much money on postage. I'm told it's socially acceptable to do them for a destination wedding anyway. If you go to Smilbox.com there are templates for really nice wedding invites. I took one of their online scrapbook templates and filled it with pictures of us, the captions told our story as a couple. Put it to music and suddenly everyone is emailing saying it made them cry/laugh/smile. It also shows you who has and hasn't viewed the invite so you know who to check in with to see if they actually received later.

I got my veil and caketopper from etsy. My cake topper piranhas are an inside joke (our cake is going to be a big blue ocean with fish on top)  Part of my bridesmaid gifts were inspired from Etsy. I really liked the tote bags, but I would never ever pay $135 for each one. My grandma found the pattern that the seller ripped off (she is selling it as her own!). Its actually a Simplicity pattern. Here's my pics with the totes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
