April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

I am going to be a April 2010 bride. I feel so behind looking at everyone else and what they have got done. I have not even decided on the place yet. I just can not decide. We are picking Cabo, Mexico. So hopefully by the end of this week we can decide the place and I can start doing all the other stuff.

Also I am not able to put any pictures up or siggy's it says invalid code. Does anyone know what that might be??

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. And welcome Megan 24.

Gregsbride, What did you decide for a photographer?

So, we picked out the BM dresses today and we have those ordered. It's the short "pocket" dress from Davids Bridal. (If your familiar with it) We decided on "pool" blue. Sorry I have no clue how to upload pictures. I'm glad that's out of the way.

Also, while we were there I saw this beautiful necklace that I liked and my mother in law insisted that she buy it for me. I declined, but she kept insisting. The problem is that I haven't picked out my dress yet. So I'm a little worried. But I figure "Oh well, it's a really pretty necklace, it's pearls and diamonds can you really go wrong?" I'm really not that worried about it. She was trying to do something nice for me and it is a beautiful necklace. Right?

I am actually flying in a photographer from home. Initially I was going to go with Sungold, but I now have to cancel because I will getting much more for my $$ by flying him in. I will have him for about 5 days and he does fusion style photography so I'm get a bit of video as well. What are you doing for photography?

I guess it would all depend on what you were looking for... There are a few great photographers in Jamaica. But then again, you may want to speak with the photographer that is doing your AHR to see if they do destination weddings and maybe they can cut you some type of deal for both events.

Hi Everyone and welcome to all the new April 2010 brides - I'm so excited to see how long our thread is getting and how our months are counting down!

Taylorbride - to upload a picture, type your post in the Advanced post section and at the top where all the little icons are there is one that is a rectangle with a little mountain rage in it - if you click on it, it is for inserting a picture - usually pictures that are hosted on photobucket or another hosting site that will give you the code to paste in. The other way is to use the paperclip and attach a photo.

Megan24 - for the siggy - make sure you check off the "Insert New Signature Picture" box. That was my problem when I started.

Hello All!

Another April 2010 bride! We are getting married on April 12, 2010 in Roatan, Bay Islands. Yes, I know that is in Honduras. We booked it prior to the Zelaya debocle but after monitoring the political climate we have decided to continue forward. Our desire was for a destination low key wedding that was more focused around spending 7 days with our closest friends and relatives.

There is very little I actually need to do since it is a very turn key wedding. We sent out (very large) STD magnets out in June and had the wedding website up since before the "official" proposal. We've been together over 5 years - at that point a proposal is never a suprise. :-)

We found that our unique location and very affordable package attracted early RSVPs and currently have 22 booked. Our wedding website requires visitor log in every time you enter the site so that way I can tell who is looking at it and how frequently. It's been a great way to monitor excitement and potential RSVPs without having to hound the guests.

I bought my dress a few weeks ago - literally off the rack. I swear it was on sale because it looked hidious on the hanger. I doubt anyone tried it on. For some reason it attracted me, even though I didn't know it was on sale, and the minute I put it on I knew it was the right one. Then I saw the price and I bought it the same day thinking even if I changed my mind there was no way I was leaving this dress at the boutique.

I wasn't planning on having attendants but here I am a month later with two BMs and refusing to name one of them a MOH. We are going with an eco-adventure theme so I'm not sending out formal invitations other than what went out with the STD magnets. We force everyone to our website and that seems to have worked.

I'm very glad I found this thread today because I've been overwhelmed by the forum threads on this site. Lots of great ideas and I can't wait to see everyone's plans and ideas move along.

Congratulations to all of you!

Hello all April 2010 brides.

This is great to have a thread just for this special month.

We are having the wedding on April 15, 2010 but haven't sent anything out to our potential guests yet as the wedding date was just provided two days ago.

We have gone through to get a group rate from the travel provider to get a better package deal. We had to pay a deposit of $ 200.00 for 10 people in order to hold the spot. My Mom has paid the entire deposit until eveyone has started booking. It seems like there is a special promotion that if we can get 15 people booked prior to August 21, 2009, then the bride would be free.

What do you think the chances are in having 15 people actually book by that date considering we haven't sent out invitations yet.

Also this may seem like a stupid question but what did everyone use and how did they communicate the Save the date.

After reading everyone's messages, I can't believe that we are so far behind. At least it feels that way. So far all we have booked is the resort and had the wedding date set. Still a little concerned that the Gran Bahia Principe Bavaro may give away our date. Not sure when they need the 10% payment sent since we haven't picked out the wedding package yet.

Welcome Kerry and Robinkar!

Robinkar - did you actually get a confirmation from the resort on your date? Once you have that you should be set. I did have to send a deposit to the resort to hold the date and I also have money down holding rooms for my guests.

As far as getting people to book by a certain date....if you read through this thread, as well as many of the others, there are girls like me, who have NOBODY booked (although my best friend is booking this week, she swore to me) and then other ones who have 20+ people booked. It all depends on your guests, your methods and how aggressive you are. I know crazykat had a really good idea for getting people to book quickly - look around post #89.

And we are all at different stages - you can do things in a year or in a month. Don't worry, it will all fall into place.

I have been trying to take a little break from everything wedding the last week or so - we're going on vacation soon and I want to wait till I come home to do the invitations, so if you don't see me on here too much - I'm trying to enjoy the rest of the summer before I have to step up the job search.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
