April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

So I haven't posted that much (just been more of a lurker on this board) but I totally agree about not being able to justify the cost of a $50k wedding. My fiance and I actually met when we were working at an upscale banquet hall where a minimum for Saturday nights was $24k just in food and beverage. We are both very practical, and although it would be romantic to get married where we met and started dating, we could never justify such an expense. There are SOOO many other things to use that money for. I also saw way too many friends fight through planning a wedding with their spouses, in-laws, parents, etc over things the other thought they should get an opinion on. I think we all made the right decision to "get away" to get married. The only stressers I have so far is a) the number of people coming (we are up to about 40!) and B) the fact that I feel SOO far behind all of you in planning! :)

Michele- Congrats on having more people attend!! I love finding out more and more people are coming, it just makes it more special that you can share with them your marriage ceremony.

Tracy- Keep us posted, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Tonir- What other things do you need to do? My list is still pretty long too, and with the holidays in a few short days, I'm not getting much done either.

In Jan. I plan to:

Get FI a suit along with his GMs

Finish up my bouquets- btw went to AC Moore lastnight, not a single real touch rose sad.gif I'll have to call Hobby Lobby before I make a hike out there.

Buy OOT bags and items to stuff it with

Get fitted for my dress

Pay for my flight- this I should've done a looooooooooooooong time ago

I hope I'm not missing anything.

I think I ended up spending about $650 on my entire package that included my bouquet, 5 BM bouquets, groom's bout, 5 GM bouts, 2 mother's corsages, and hair flower. Honestly it was much more than what I wanted to spend on flowers, but I guess the fact that they split the payments for me helped. Not only that it gave me piece of mind to know what my flowers would look like beforehand, and most importantly all the quotes I received from the local fresh florists were at least double if not triple what I paid. Even worse, they didn't have the flowers I requested and would have to substitute them for other flowers.

Btw, thanks for sharing your to do list... It helps me remember all the things I forgot to add to mine.

Thank you for sharing the quote and prices you paid. It is a lot more then I'd ever want to spend on flowers, but they look amazing!!! I may consider. lol

My pleasure.. it's what it's for to help everyone out. I love when people put their list up because then I just add to mine. So actually I am not sure I like it after all.. just adds to my 'to do list' lol

Gregsbride - your flowers are GORGEOUS! I'm sure you're soo excited and I think it's worth the money for the piece of mind to know that they are done and done the way you want them :)

My list. Hmmm it might be a little scary when I try to put it in black and white! :)

Grooms shirt and tie

Choose catering menu

Ceremony/reception transportation

FLOWERS!

Set song list and load Ipod

Contact villa owner regarding 3 days prior (when fiance and I will be there before all the other guests)

Order OOT bags and most of the contents

MOH dress

Set up deep sea fishing and day sail excursions

Draft and send out pre-wedding info brochure

Draft Welcome letter

Photo shot list (but I have a great photographer so I'm not too worried about this)

I'm sure there's a dozen other things I'm not thinking about!

Christina - the flowers look AWESOME!!! And I borrowed most of your email to your guests today to get people to book, so thank you : )

I just looked at your lists of things to do and thought " OMG, I have so much to do too" but it will all wait till after the holidays. FI and I are leaving tomorrow morning to drive to South Carolina. I'm off from work all of next week so maybe I'll do some looking around for OOT bag things while I'm off but I just need a break from everything.

Have a great Holiday if you celebrate!

Christina- Your bouquets/flowers are beautiful! My flowers will be orchids too but with a touch of roses. $650 is not bad for everything you got, you can't beat that, esp. when comparing to what you were going to pay for fresh flowers. I'm looking at the site you mentioned now, thanks for the help.

Michele- Not sure if this is a jersey pharma thing, but i'm off work all next week too wink.gif have fun on vacation.

Tracy and Tonir- Thanks for sharing your lists. One thing I can cross off, which wasn't on my list yesterday was book an AHR venue. FI and I finally put a deposit down on a banquet hall we like yay!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
