April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

Hey Dawn, welcome to our thread! It does take some time navigating around the BDW site but you'll get the hang of it soon enough and become addicted like the rest of us. That's awesome you have so many people booked for your wedding already too! You must be really excited about that especially considering you haven't sent out the official invitations yet!

I haven't even thought about music really so I have no suggestions for you!!! One of these days.....

Hello April 2010 brides! I'm an April 24, 2010 bride at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios (I've seen this referred to as Riu and ROR also but I'm not sure what that means). I am getting SO EXCITED! I'm glad someone tipped me off to the importance of dress shopping early. I purchased mine just in time and I have my first fitting in early February.

I haven't even started thinking about music yet. I know I want to walk down the aisle to Love Is You by Chrisette Michelle but that's it. We're having an AHR so I hadn't planned to really do anything big in Jamaica. Just in case though, I should probably download a playlist. I understand it's cheaper to do it this way instead of paying for a DJ. Are you ladies downloading party music or lounge music?

The last few pages you have been talking about song lists. Does anyone have some song suggestions for the wedding when the flower girls, bridesmaids are walking? We have decided on our first dance song it is:

Someone Like You by Van Morrison

Dawn

Dawn, I haven't gotten as far as who's walking down to what except for me haha. Congrats on having so many booked already, I'm jealous!

I actually feel like i'm in pretty good shape and don't plan on doing any more "planning" until the beginning of the year, Jan. Sent my invitations out early (September) with a January rsvp date, just so i can start planning the OOT bags, already have my dress, first fitting is January 10. Have 2 veils, 2 pair of shoes, need to determine my hairstyle, bought our rings, booked photographer & DJ...am i missing anything girlshuh.gif for now anyway?
How about makeup? I have one of my bridesmaids helping me with that one. Another thing I've started to battle with is preparing a list for which documents I need for my civil ceremony... anyone have insight or a list?

I'm downloading party music, my friends and I love to dance. Maybe toward the end I'll have some lounge music as people will become tired.

Welcome to Mich & latoya too!!

I just now realized why I hadn't really been thinking too much about music! We're not really planning to do much dancing for our reception. Not because our guests won't want to... but WE don't want to! LOL! I think when we do our ceremony we want to have a toast with everyone right afterwards, maybe have a first dance so people can snap their pictures and then later after our dinner reception we'll end up heading into the disco to dance it up there. That's what we had in mind anyways I think. I hadn't really timed things out yet so it might change down the road.

Good point about the makeup...i am HOPING to just go with the Resorts hair & makeup artist....i have gotten other reviews and recommendations from the resort about the hairstylist and makeup, so while i have an idea of what i want, i'm hoping the girl at the resort can make it all come to life :) We are getting to the resort on saturday and not getting married until Wed. so maybe i will schedule a trial, just in case.....again, good tip :)

Congrats on your dress Latoya!!! I hired a DJ bc we are not having an AHR, this IS our wedding for all who can come or not, hence the DJ. Also, check online, google wedding music, i saw a ton of great lists that you can compile on your own, good luck!!

Random quetion:

Is anyone considering meeting up wth your groom and/or bridal party for pictures BEFORE your ceremony?

I really want to capture the first time I see my FI all dressed up and him seeing me in my dress. I'm afraid if I wait until the ceremony the camera will only be on me and not on him. I'll want to be able to hold him and kiss him and all that mushy stuff lol. Is this a bad idea?

Hi: I am wondering what to do about the hair and make-up. I am ok with doing my own make-up but would like someone to do my hair. My hair has a will of its own. Natural curly hair in a tropical climate is a b......ch! MY hair looks like a rat made a home in it when ever I go on vacation. What am I going to do!!!! I live up in Western Canada and my hair stays pretty smooth with the amount of product I put in it. I just bought some of those velcro rollers and a new curling iron to do ringlets. Will mess around with them and see what I can do.

Dawn I often have the same issue with my hair. It's not curly but wavy and thick so it goes POOF when I let it dry naturally without doing anything to it. When I was in Mexico in April 2008 I relied on a combination of thicker hair serum, mousse and hairspray and it seemed to be enough to do the trick. The mousse and hairspray went on when my hair was wet and the serum was good for mid-day frizzies from my head rubbing on the towel on the lounge chair!!! I'm in Calgary and use a flat iron all the time but didn't bother even bringing it to mexico last time, although this trip i will be.

If you have a good hair stylist here, they should be able to recommend some products you can use or even the best way to take advantage of your curls as opposed to trying to eliminate them. LOL, I know that I braided my hair a lot which is SO not useful for a wedding trip!

I will check at home tonight to see which serum i use and let you know. It's pretty widely available to you shouldn't have trouble finding it near you.

We'd been considering this when trying to book our photographer because initially I thought they only had the morning available. I was worried as well but realized that FI and I are breaking enough traditions already that one more wouldn't hurt LOL!

I think that you could easily plan it so that you kind of do two "walks down the aisle" so to speak. Have your guests all arriving at the wedding location as planned but choose an alternate location that it totally away and out of site for you, FI and your wedding party. You could still have them all waiting for you just like in the ceremony and that way when you come around the corner you can still have the effect of seeing each other for the first time. Then once you've got some photos that you want there, FI and the gm's can go take their positions up at the actual wedding location and you with your bm's can carry on with your regular processional and no one will be the wiser! I think that way you'd still have that glow of having just seen him and it will all have a natural flow to it.

Hehe, plus then you technically aren't seeing him before the ceremony, it's just an early step in the whole process! And if that's what you want and what will get you through it all then go for it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
