April 2010 Brides

Hey Sarah - i think some of the draw for the fake flowers is based purely on a cost thing. I know my wedding package doesn't include much by way of flowers for the wedding party etc so to add them on could get costly pretty quickly. This would just be a more simple solution in that regard plus you'd also know exactly what the arrangements would look like (considering right now I feel like I'd be leaving it to chance since I don't know specifics about floral arrangements very well).

As for passports, I had included a note about them directly on my invitations along with the link to the government website with all the application/renewal information for everyone. We'll likely include a quick line about it again when we send out RSVP reminders in the New Year.

Sorry I've been absent for a while. I've been catching up on the thread and its making nervous i haven't been doing anything for my wedding! I have some questions.

1. What's the draw for the fake flowers? Part of the reason I choose the destination wedding was the beautiful real tropical flowers! i'm assuming they're cheaper in Mexico, is that not the case?

2. How are you making OOT bags with out knowing how many people are coming? I figured I'd start in Feb/March after the RSVP's are due. is that too late? what's the delivery time for most of you items?

3. did anyone send out a reminder email to their guests make sure they have up-to-date passports? i want to do that soon and am looking for wording...

Thanks so much!

Sarah

sarah - don't worry about not doing anything... i think we all will or already have taken a break from planning stuff. it gets to a point where it just slows down or you can't do anything yet. nothing wrong with that! embrace the down time! to answer your questions..

1) i agree with meghan.. a lot of the appeal is cost. i also really wanted to be able to keep my flowers afterwards and have control over what they were going to look like. i couldn't be 100% certain that the resort would have just what i wanted so that's why i'm opting to do it this way!

2) we have a small group, so i already know roughly how many people are coming. i always hedge my bets and get a few extra. when in doubt you can sell the extras on here to another bride!

3) i put it in my invitations and have also been hounding people. if you have a big group, a reminder email is a great idea.

Thanks Everyone! I love how helpful this forum is. I feel much more comfortable now waiting until the spring to start doing the planning stuff.

The cost makes sense for the flowers, but I think for me having the ease of having the resort do the flowers and having the real thing will be worth the cost. maybe i'll get ambitious in the spring and decide to make centerpieces. $65 each table would add up fast!

right now I have no idea if i'm going to have 20 guests or 200. I'm going to send the invites out in January. All my guests have the save-the-date and TA info, and the feeling I'm getting is most are waiting till closer to the date to see if they can get time off etc before they book the trip. so no point for me asking for RSVP's now if its all going to change the spring!

Thanks for all the help!

those invites are GORGEOUS!!! and yes.. BDW and vistaprint are amazing! i even just made my first business cards on vistaprint the other day.. those free deals are amazing.

you make a great point about the flowers too... everyone has their thing that's worth paying the money to not worry about! for some it's flowers, others it's decorations, DJ, photog, etc. it's really interesting to see all the different points of view, and we can get great ideas off of each other that way too!

i competely forgot i have great news to share too.. FINALLY FINALLY one of my BM ordered her dress! i sent a friendly email out this past weekend with tons of links to dresses (they are picking their own black dress) that i thought would look good. my favorite was a gorgeous convertible dress form victoria's secret since you can wear it a ton of ways for all body types, it's very affordable and it looks super comfortable.

erin - too funny that you commented on the things that each of us will pay for just so that we don't have to worry about them - I just paid about $40 to mail four invites (yipes!) to the Future-IL's, Brother-IL and F-grandparents-IL to shut them up! LOL! We've been having a few difficulties with them and one issue was the LACK of formal invitations in their hands. So now it's done and I don't have to think about it anymore cheesy.gif

And i LOVE that dress!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been looking at a different convertible dress that was at least double that cost but I really liked the concept since my three bridesmaids have such completely different shapes. The only problem now is the lack of Victoria's secret stores nearby to me :S I am so spending my night on the website to see what else they have. I'd never have thought of checking there for dresses... shows how CDN I am!

vs is amazing! we have a few stores by us, but none of them have a huge selection of their clothes. their sizes are pretty true so my BM who got it just ordered it online. their returns are really really simple too. you should be able to find tons of options on there!

ebredhawk: OMG, I need that dress for myself!!! I love it! I love that it's soooo many different looks for one great price!! Great find! I have ordered online from VS and it is very easy, and I find the clothes fit really well, even a little big, which is always flattering, if I can order it in a small and it fits I don't really care what it looks like!! lol

Sarah: BEAUTIFUL invitations!!! My fav color, and my wedding color!! They are stunning!

Meghan: good call on the passport link, I didn't even think of that! Geesh I thought my mailing cost was bad...$40 for 4 invites, that's ridiculous!! Canada Post Eh!! I think I spent in total $120...way more than what I paid for the invites!! lol (DIY) and in that $120 I sent a big parcel full on invites home to be hand delivered to save on mailing costs...all in all I think I sent out over 90 invites. Threw out the postal receipts because I didn't want to think of it again!! lol Told my FI if we ever get married again I'm sending everyone emails!! lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
