it is super nice of them... they told me from the beginning that they didn't want money to be a reason for people not to come, and i know it would be for some. i guess they figured that it's pretty much one of the few times that all of us will be able to go on vacation together. you'd be surprised how nasty one of our guests was when she found out that SHE wasn't getting paid for... my parents have never even met her!

We are getting married on April 15, 2010 and are expecting anywhere between 50 to 60 people. Keep in mind that these are from the people that say that they are coming but so far only 14 have actually booked.

We were originally thinking about oot bags and I actually started a list of things that I could start to buy but the number and the price were getting a little too much. I don't want to be cheap but still need to keep the costs down as we are also having a wedding reception in Canada in May 2010.

While I was looking around during lunch hour, I happened to see a candle set at Bowrings that has three candles - Sun, Sand and Surf. It seemed appropriate. They were 75% off for a sale price of $4.99. I was thinking of giving these to each couple and then buy something different for the single guys and gals. Hoping that this will be more economical. What do you think??

I understand about the OOT bags, as filling them can add up. I am doing them ,but getting the stuff at the dollar store, or wal-mart (the travel size things)and oot bags will be per couple (except for the single people) I think the candle things as a favour is a great idea. I like the sun, earth, fire thing! I think it would go great with a beach theme wedding.
I've finaly decided on my favour (lanterns that I can set up on the dinner table, have them all lite up then ppl can take it home with them)
Wow your getting allot of people to come! congrats. I truly don't expect more then 20 but probably around 10-15 people.

woah!! looking at everyone's posts and siggy's, i feel a little behind at 8 months out and only 2 ppl actually booked (we haven't even booked our flights! haha). invites are going out mid september with an RSVP due date of feb.1. figured that we really will know who's coming way before that date just because we see and talk to everyone all the time.

robinkar - you are too right, the thought of different little items to fill it with is definitely starting to get expensive...i really like the idea of your candles with the sun, sand, surf theme! .and that price is GREAT!! i have a ton of incense lying around the house so i was going to cut them all up and put them in matchboxes to make little travel incense holders with our monogram stickers on the matchbooks...you could do something like that - would be super cheap and super easy, and a nice complement to your candles.

caribbeanlover - you are going to have such a small, intimate wedding!! so lucky! is it pretty much all family?

I love your incent idea with the match box and sticker! cheap!!

Actually I think it'll be more friends then family. Due to money issues. so my parents will have a small cocktail reception back home in July. Nothing fancy no decor, more so for the members who want to see me in my dress.

I sent my invites out in July, rsvp date for Oct 1. i only have 4 returned saying yes, 6 no's. so far. alittle disapointed but had to expect it. My FI can't even figure out a bestman. Which is hard to deal with since I like being planned. If he can't figure out how a bestman let along groosmen, how am I suppose to choose how many bridesmaid (not to say i had ask 4 of my gf to be bridesmaid) and so I had to let one go (for now, may need to let another go off her duties) just to try to make it equal girls vs guys.

Are all of you having the same amount of people for bridemaids and groomens?

Hello fellow April brides!

I'm getting married April 9, 2010. I sent out about 60 STDs last month and am still continuing to send out more, go fig. We'll be marrying at the Paradisus RM in Mexico and can't wait! We visited the resort in early June as a site visit along with both our families. I know the wedding books say that anywhere between 30-50% of the people you invite will RSVP "no" so we're clueless as to how many can actually make it. Either way, we're stoked!

So far I've got the dress (Kleinfeld's in NYC), the bridesmaids dresses, the photog, the DJ and we're flying down the minister to do the ceremony in Mexico. He'll write on paper that we were married in the US ahead of time (even though we won't have) and he'll do the actual ceremony down there. He's a friend of the fam, so he was willing to accommodate us in this way. All I need to book is the videographer and the MUA. If I can get this done by the end of the month, I'll be on pace. According to the DW checklists, all vendors must be booked by the end of April in order to be on pace. We have the invites picked out and will probably mail them out in November. We know that's a little early but we want to give people enough of a head start. We setup the website to help people out with making reservations, etc. and we have travel coordinators that will book the airfare, hotel and excursions for the guests who don't want to be bothered with doing it themselves. We're using a wedding consultant (she cowrote The Knot's Destination Wedding book) to recommend vendors to us, however I'm finding that I'm not really using her recommendations, it's more for peace of mind. I gotta say, I'm loving this whole planning bit! So much fun!

we're having more friends than fam, too - due to party issues...we really wanted just a young, fun bunch of our really close friends. for the "old ppl" it's just our parents on either side and the parents of my 2 best friends and my sister-in-law. :)

that's so frustrating that the FI can't get it together...shitfan.gif hopefully he'll figure it out before long. it took my man a bit to get it together as well. we're having an equal #: he has a bestman and a groomsman, i have a maid of honor and a bridesman. another very good friend of mine is the officiant.

happygolucky - welcome to the thread and congrats on your wedding! sounds like you've really got it all planned out and together! smile29.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
