April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

Well I found this thread almost a month after it was started. Oops o'well. I am also a April 2010 bride 4/2/10 to be exact. We are going on a cruise and once we port in St. Thomas we will be getting married :) We already sent out our STD's and in a few months will be sending out the invitations. We are sending them out sooner than later so we can get a count on whos going to the actual wedding and not just the reception. We will be having an AHR about a month after we return which will be exciting! Im starting to get things in to order of what we want and what we are looking for. :) Still lots of planning but atleast we have the venues booked :)

tara, you are not behind at all! in my own defense, the fact that i have done so much so far is because i have to be pretty much done with everything by the end of the year. the first three months of the year are crazy for me (accounting, blah!) so i won't have any time to spare then! you've got tons done already though.. esp. at dreams since the WC's take care of so much anyway! hope your meeting with your photog goes well.. let us know!

scubadiva - welcome! i can't wait to hear more about how your planning is going... i am so intrigued by cruise weddings! how do you pick where at your location to get married? is it tough to coordinate everything? do you get to have a private reception on the boat? sorry for all the questions, i just think it's such a neat idea!!

oh, and christina, i have had the same thing happen to me too with the last page of threads! glad i'm at least in good company!

Welcome Tara and scubadiva and congrats!

Tara- Don't worry about what you don't have done yet, I still have a ton to do and worry I'm behind schedule, too. It's just a matter of time, I just think that by the time April comes everything will be done and the stress will go along with it! How was your engagement party? Get any cool gifts? FI and I haven't had one and I think at this time, it's too late. Our friends still ask when we'll have one but I don't know.. the moments passed lol.

scubadiva- my friend is thinking about having a cruise wedding, too. how exciting :) I've thought about having one but I have family travelling from all over US, I just figured we meet at one spot and stay there, does that make sense?

my ticker still says 9 months sad.gif

Hi Tara and Scubadiver - Welcome!

I think we're all about the same when it comes to where we're at woith planning. Wome a little more, some a little less - some did different things...depends on what you want to do, too.

Don't Stress - that's part of having the DW, so you don't have to as much!

PS - I've had the same thing happen with going to the end of the threads...

My FI has a HUGE cruise addiction :) so we decided to go on a cruise for our wedding. We knew we didnt want to book the wedding with the ship because the prices are so high. We found a local WC on the island called Weddings the Island Way :) We knew we wanted St. Thomas because we both fell in love with the island and this way we dont have to jump through any hoops since its considered the "united states". Everyone that is coming we told them to enjoy this as a vacation and all we ask is the morning of the wedding and that night to meet up for a reception dinner. We are looking into blocking some tables that night for our reception nothing to fancy. We will be have a huge AHR where we all can let loose. The packages the WC has to offer is amazing and is priced just right. Im confident that it will be the wedding my FI and I both want.

Thanks for the reassurance, everyone! I feel like things are slowly falling into place, right now I'm just stressed that package prices are still too high, and I would like to set up a group rate soon. :0S We did meet with our photographer last night, she's awesome, just waiting to see the contract.

Ebredhawk - Yes, that makes sense, with tax season and all! It must feel good to be continuously scratching things off your wedding "to do" list, eh?

Dobauvelt - The engagement party was sooo much fun! We got engaged in February, and had it early June. I really don't think there are any rules regarding when you have it, where you have it, or who holds it, so if you want to have one, you should! Our wedding party simply rented a pavilion at my parents' campground, and about 50 of our closest friends and family came for drinks, games, and a BBQ. It was very low key, but super fun, and anyone staying over could just book a campsite and pitch a tent. We didn't get any gifts, but we asked the wedding party to put that specifically on the E-Vite. We didn't want people to have to spend even MORE, since the people that came are the ones that we expect at the wedding! We did have a poker tournament with a $20 buy-in, and a 50/50, where half of the proceeds of each went to the winner, and the other half to us, and we ended up getting $300 for the wedding fund.

Scubadive - A cruise wedding sounds stellar! How many people are you inviting? I've never been on a cruise, but I've definitely heard good things, I'm sure your guests will have a blast!

Right now I'm kind of in the creative stages, and trying to think up games or things that we can organize around the resort, to keep people happy. We went to a destination wedding in 2008, and they had games at the reception, poker tournament, sunset cruise. A lot of things planned, and since the groom is now one of our 2 best men, I don't want to copy them! Does anyone have any ideas of a game to play at the reception, or other things that could be organized throughout the week, besides excursions through the resort?

Hi All!

I too am a April 2010 bride (April 22, 2010)! So far we've signed and sent off the wedding contract for our Moon Palace wedding... but that's about it! We're looking into photographers right now and I think we've decided on Tammara (Tamm's Photos - Wedding Photography Intro) I heard she's good and I've read some great reviews, right now I'm still trying to talk my FI into it. Any other april 2010 brides using her?

Congrats to everyone and good luck with the planning!

Tiffany

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
