April 2010 Brides

Congrats Erin on finding your BD outfits!!!! It must be so exciting... I have been scoping out a few outfits on Fredricks of Hollywood because I plan on taking those at some point but I need to hit the gym to work on this little pooch at the bottom of my stomach sad.gif My FI and I still haven't taken engagement pics, and at this rate I'm not too sure that we will...

Hey bhrd!!! I'm so glad you joined us wink.gif My resort also has a $100 guest pass fee for those not staying there, but I just don't have the cash to pay for those wanting to stay outside the resort. We put info about this on our website to let them know upfront what the fee was. I think it is very generous of you to cover this for your guests.

My FI has family living in Jamaica so I plan on shipping down most of my OOT/welcome bag stuff sometime in December... I'm hoping that I will be done shopping for most of the items by them.

On another note... I've got to get one of those tickers!!

I need to get one of those tickers too! How'd you guys do it? I can't believe it's less than 9 months!! ahhh

I haven't decided about whether I'm going to pay for the guest pass or not. Ours is "only" 65. I've been trying to steer everyone to the hotel we're getting married at. So far only me, FI, and the photographer are booked :) Hope more start coming in soon! I'm thinking I'll probably pay for my good friends that are poor still and let family friends fend for themselves.

christina, i think one of the main reasons we're getting engagement pics done is because otherwise we would never meet our photog until she showed up in the DR. at the very beginning FI was totally opposed to it, but i think he's warmed up to the idea a little!

you girls have to get a ticker! it's so fun to see the days go by! i even have a countdown written on our calendar hanging on our fridge! it's now less than 300 days for us.. eee!!

speaking of OOT bags... not sure what everyone is doing for these, but one of the things we wanted to include were pool floats since sometimes the ones at the resort get reserved early and we didn't want our guests worrying about them. well, FI and i went to walmart for a quick trip last night and we ended up finding rafts for $2.50 a piece!! if any of you are considering doing this, check it out!! i couldn't find the same deal online, but they had enough at the store for us to get 20 and they are packaged flat for easy packing! we are giving out our bags a few weeks before we head out so they can use the bags as their carry on!

Erin - thanks for the floats tip!
Hi Sarah - we really want to stay in the Riviera Maya and I think we have it down to two:

The Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda and the Occidental Grand Xcaret.

Price was a big factor for us - we are very worried about asking our guests to pay more than $1500 (cdn) incl tax.

Any feedback on either of these resorts would be fab.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about the Blue Bay but I'm having my wedding at the Occidental Grand Xcaret!!! I've posted a bunch of info in the occidental grand xcaret thread in the Riviera Maya section. Prices for 4 days with airfare is about 1000, and a week about 1500/person.

Check it out, if you have any other questions, let me know! The wedding coordinator, Marialma, is great at getting back to me too. Her email is "Marialma Ortiz GFX" <bodas.gfx@mx.occidentalhotels.com>

Hello and congrats to all April 2010 brides!!!!

I'm getting married April 12, 2010 at Dreams Punta Cana. I've checked out some of your dresses, they are beautiful! I will, slowly, and over the course of the next couple weeks, hopefully read ALL of the posts on this thread. Unfortunately, I had a wee bit of a panic attack after reading the first couple of pages, and seeing where you guys are at in the planning process. I'm nowhere NEAR where you're all at, so I had to skip to the end, and just introduce myself, for now!

I have yet to try on a single wedding dress. :0S The summer has just been too busy! What we have done is:

- Took planning trip

- Booked date with resort

- Picked wedding party

- Started wedding website

- Viewed the first electronic drafts of our save the dates

- Had engagement party

- Have lead on photographer and meeting with her tomorrow night

That's IT! You all amaze me with your planning and organization skills!

Looking forward to following this thread!

Cheers!

Tara

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
