That's Great Erin, I'll be thinking about you on that day, You'll def have to let us know how it goes. How many people are you expecting for this? I know you weren't telling a lot of people.

May I ask what made you decide not to have the legal ceremony in Punta Cana?

Same thing with you Maghan, what made you decide not to do the legal in Mexico?

Kimmy, Your Bachelorette sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, I actually have mine this Saturday too. I know when I am getting old when all I can think about is the hang over the next day and not the actual party lol.

Hope you get some pics, love to see them!!

I wish I was closer to you girls, I so would attend!!!

Nat, Thank you so much for sharing all your words, I will def have to steal them, it's just to good not too lol. Thanks again you did an amazing job, again your guest are going to love them!!

thanks meghan!

tracy, we decided not to do a legal wedding in PC because of the cost and how long it takes to get a marriage certificate. at my job, if we want to add someone to our health insurance (ie: J and his daughter) in the middle of the year you have to show proof that you were married within 30 days of when it happened. since it takes something like 6 weeks to get your certificate, we figured this way was much easier. it also gives us something special for J's daughter to come to, just in case she can't make it to the wedding.

That's a very good reason. Here in Quebec, once you've been living together for a year, your automatically consider 'common law' husband and wife. So I get to have the FI's medical insurance and all, it's exactly like being married. Which I think is stupid in some since, but in my case it worked out, as just 1 medication of mine is $1300 a month. His insurance send's us a cheque with in the following week.

I really thought all of Canada had 'common law' I guess I'm wrong lol.

I think it'll be real nice for your FI daughter to be able to be a part of something (even more important it'll be your legal day) when exactly do you find out if she can come down south or not again?

I think all of Canada does have the same type of common-law regulations: I know FI and I won't have any real difference benefits wise or legally after we get married. We're each others next of kin and beneficiary now, and we each have the other on our insurance. Maybe it's different in the US?

Natasha- I love your OOT bags! Wow, your guests are going to love you when they get them. I also really like the sand and shell favours, too.

We're looking at the 23d of April for a legal day right now. We'll have to apply for a marriage license as soon as we get to Nova Scotia and then we'll be good to go after a week. We're still deciding on the details but I think you can go to the courthouse and get it done so we'll probably just do that. We're telling no-one, though.

Erin- your bachelorette sounds like so much fun! You know, I've never actually been to a dueling piano bar but it sounds really cool. I hope you have a great time this weekend and trust me, I'd be there if I could but I'm a bit too far away.

Tracy- that is so cool that your party is this weekend, too! I'll be sending good vibes to both of you and I'll have a glass of wine in each your honour that night!

We're getting married this Friday, legally and in accordance to the state of Texas. We decided not to have a legal ceremony in Mexico due to the cost and how long it takes to get the certificate back and then have it translated and registered with the county court house. We were going to wait until the week before we left, but, FI just got a new job that he starts on Monday! WOOOHOO!!!!! His benefits kick in on day 1, and for me to be on his insurance, we have to be married. So, we went and applied for a marriage license yesterday and we have 72 hours to to the jp and have it be "finalized".

US does have the same idea of common law marriage, it just varies by state. In some states if you consider yourself husband and wife, and announce it to people, then you're considered "common law married". In other, like in Texas, you have to have a common law marriage certificate, but in all states, common law marriage is not fully recognized as a "wholistic" marriage. Thus, you may not reep all the same benefits: shared insurance/assets/etc.

Sorry - that probably made things more confusing, but I'm an accountant and know a lot of the boring details :)

I totally followed you, as I am too in the accounting world.

It's interesting how all states and province work differently.

Congrats, for Friday! I will probably congratulate you on Friday, sooo exciting!!!

How many people know, will be there?

We figured, another 6 more weeks to have a marriage certificate was ok with us, since for us it doesn't make any difference.

The money I can agree, it cost a lot more. Plus the certificate will be in spanish, so I'll have to translate it, and I am not sure if I have to legalize the translated copy.

But when I thought about changing my mind to try and safe so money to get to do 2 weeks down south, it was still going to cost us $300 here at the court house plus $700 for the symbolic wedding down south. We would only saved $300. We just left the plans the way it was, plus it would have taken 2 months here ( I guess a lot of people are getting married that route now and days)

Ladies, thanks for the compliments on my wedding favors and OOT bag stuff. Suzy, you are so funny calling it a “swag bagâ€. I like that.

Mel, I got a good laugh out of your story about the burnt toast and the firefighters. It sounds like something I would do. Lol!

Kimmy, I donâ€t think your idea of an “all white†wedding sounds tacky at all. Have fun at your bachelorette this weekend!

I just read through some of you ladies posts regarding your bridesmaid issues. I am sooooo glad I chose the people I did for my bridal party or I could have been having similar issues. I am only having a maid of honor (my good friend of 9 years) and one bridesmaid (my only sister). My cousin is the person that I always thought I would ask to be my maid of honor, but when I decided to have a semi-destination wedding that changed. I thought about the fact that I might not be able to count on her to do all of the things that a maid of honor is expected to do. Then, I would have to foot the bill for her attire and travel to make sure she made it. I was also worried that she would drop out last minute and leave me without a maid of honor. So, I decided to ask my close friend to be my maid of honor. She has been great and I can totally depend on her. So, my cousin calls me last week to let me know that she is not going to be able to make it to the wedding after all for various reasons. I was so relieved that I had not asked her to be in the wedding. But, I am definitely disappointed that she will not be there.

Itâ€s so funny you said that, I said the same thing to my FI the other day.

Iâ€m not feeling so good about my body. I have not lost the weight I wanted to. I was doing pretty good, then I had two two-week work trips in the past couple of months and gained back about half of the weight I had lost. I am a total couch potato too. Thankfully, my wedding dress is very slimming, so I still feel like I look good in my wedding dress. Iâ€m definitely not swimsuit ready though!

I have not tried the Jillian Michaels DVDs. I do the Hip Hop Abs DVDs when I do find the motivation to work out.

Thanks ladies :) Nobody knows except for my employer. I'm afraid we might freak our families out a little to much if we told them, and we don't want it to feel like a "wedding" at all. The judge even agreed to skip the whole "do you, we do, I promounce you" junk so it's basically just paper signing. We're going to dinner afterwards to celebrate his new job, but that's all.

I haven't lost the weight that I've wanted either... One of my meds got changed so I've gained water buldge, but I've lost a little of it. I'll keep eating the grapefruit and cheerios (which I'm totally addicted to right now) and see if I loose another 5 pounds before we go!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
