I just realized your getting married at the same resort as a friend of mine.. but she is getting married April 14th.
I was going to go with that resort, I just decided to go with the Palladium (no reason really)
You'll love it there.. I heard so much great things about it!!

well as much as Erin seemed to know they didn't want to do Mexico, we knew that's where we wanted to be! I'd heard from a number of people that the "all-inclusives" and resort standards in DR or Cuba arent' quite comparable to the ones in Mexico, simply because each just has their own ways of living. Nothing wrong with any place, just different. And we kind of liked the familiarity of going back to the Mayan Riviera since we already know all the fun things we can, and will, be doing!! We also knew that we didn't want to go down the Puerto Vallarta coast because that's where FI's brother had his DW a few years back and I've been battling enough trying to make this our own, and not have it as an event that their family just compares back all the time. In that regard it would have made sense to choose Cuba or DR but we're happy with our choice!

I heard the beach isn't as nice.. it's mostly all coral and rocks.. is that true for Mayan River? because I still want to go to mexico one day soon.. the FI not so much so it's more of 'convincing him' kind of thing, I need to go with some good points when it's time lol

I did hear the food in Mexico is pretty much the best food in all inclusive resort when comparing to Cuba,DR and Mexico.

The resort I'm staying at is in Cayo Santa Maria- one of the little islands on the northern part of Cuba. It's still pretty undeveloped so we figured it would be quieter, and the beach is supposed to be spectacular!

I think Mexico will be one of our next vacations because I've heard that the food is spectacular and the resorts are awesome, too. We also want to go to Vegas soon- neither of us have been yet. Maybe later in the year or next year. Vegas has been our running joke during wedding planning- we were really tempted to do the wedding there and every time planning gets stressful we've been saying that Vegas is looking better and better.

lol! vegas does look fun.. but I think I could do 3 days and be good to go home as I am not a gambler. The shows look amazing!!

Oh yes a group that is coming to our wedding stayed at the exact same resort last year in April, they said they would definitely return. And the beach was just as beautiful as Varadero. The food was much better then the Melia we had all stayed at the year before that. I think you picked a great resort.

Yup I sooo want to go to Mexico. Actually when I was planning the wedding and looking everywhere for resorts, the 1 place I wasn't allowed looking was Mexico (FI rule) so it makes me want to go even more now.

Last year when we were in Punta Cana it was +30C and it was -30 here on the same day. It'll still be winter here in April when we go- crazy huh?
Minus 4Fhuh.gif That is cold! I'll take the cold here in Atlanta over that any day. I know you are so ready for Cuba!

The FI and I spent a week in Vegas in March last year. I think we spent all of 30 minutes playing the slot machines one night and that was the only gambling we did all week. Also, the resort we stayed in did not have a Casino, which I preferred. We spent most of the time going to shows, trying different restaurants, and walking the strip. We also did the Hoover Dam tour while we were there. We had a good time. There's so much other stuff to do there besides gamble. Just don't make the mistake of going there in the summer when it is scorching hot!! The weather was perfect there in March

Tracy - you're right that the beaches on the Puerto Vallarta are not as nice as the ones down the Mayan coast. The ocean isn't nearly as nice either... much dirtier and darker etc not the beautiful shades of blue and green that you see in the Caribbean and not as warm either. There's lots of reasons for that... currents etc but I won't bore everyone!! LOL!

For anyone that hasn't been to MX, you have to make sure that you go right up and down the coast (Playa del Carmen to Tulum is I think 40 min on the bus?!) and also get over to Cozumel. We rented scooters on cozumel last time and booted around the roads along the shoreline for the day and had the most amazing time. Apparently on a good day you can do some surfing too which we're hoping to get this year!!!! The beaches are incredibly hot so make sure to take a big towel to sit on!!

Mmmm... all this talk of beaches makes me want to go even more!

So just to vent a bit I've had an annoying issue with ordering my travel mugs. I found some on sale at 4imprint three weeks age with a minimum order amount that was reasonable. I figured that was great- cheap mugs, no need to pay duty. Well, two weeks after I submit my order (two weeks!) they email me and say my mugs are no longer in stock, and send me some pictures of different mugs to pick. So I pick a different style thinking "oh well, I'm not fussy, mugs are mugs..." and two days later they email me saying the ones they suggested are not in stock. Fast forward to yesterday when I ended up canceling my order because they've repeated this process twice more! Aaarrggh. So I finally just ordered them through discount mugs this morning- I'll pay the friggin duty. I can't believe they wasted three weeks of my time! censored.gif

OK, vent over. Thanks for listening!

wow!! Those exact same mugs at those 2 sites I found at the dollar store for $1.25!

But this way you wont have to worry about putting a label on it. Like me!!!!

at least it's sorted now you don't have to worry anymore. Sorry you had to go through a rough time.

Thanks Meghan for the info on MX, I am so going to the FI with those wonderful points for our next trip lol.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
