Oasis Viva Beach temporarily closed!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I just wanted to post this thread as a heads up. I am heading down to Cancun this June 21st for my wedding on June 26th. All of my wedding guests, and I, had booked our hotel stay for Oasis Viva Beach. This hotel is also adjacent to Grand Oasis Viva Beach. I needed to call the hotel directly to ask them a question. I had my Mom call for me since her spanish is perfect, and mine isn't. She was told that the Oasis Viva Beach is temporarily closed. She asked why and the man told her that it was due to the drastic decline in tourists. Since the Oasis hotels are a chain of 7 in Cancun, they decided that it was in their financial benefit to temporarily close it and transfer their guest to one of their other hotels. I am SOOOO glad we called ahead a time so that I can arrange to block rooms off in another Oasis hotel and have all of my guests stay together. We received NO phone call from the hotel or Expedia (who we booked with) regarding this change.

I just thought I'd give you all a heads up incase you have booked your hotel stay and weren't aware of this change. I'm not sure how long they will keep the hotel closed. The man informed my Mom that as soon as tourism picks up, they will reopen it. He doubts that it will be reopened by the time we head down there. Now I've got to call all of my guests and give them the GREAT news mad.gif. I'm leaving in 18 days. The wedding stress is starting to REALLY kick into full gear. Wish me luck. shots.gif

Also...my FI found a website that tells you which hotels are temporarily closed in Cancun right now...please check it out Funjet Vacations

thanks for letting other girls know this.

I just wanted to touch on something you mentioned. If you book your travel on Orbitz, Expedia, travelocity, etc it is their responsibility to call you when changes/cancellations are made. So Delta or Marriott whatever aren't required to call you or email you, the online booking resource you used is, and it is VERY common for them not to notify you. they mostly notify you through email so make sure they aren't in your junk. But as a warning if you ever book through them for anything make sure you check in on your stuff all the time, especially as your travel gets closer!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
